Meet Abigail Goodin

We recently connected with Abigail Goodin and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Abigail , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Finding my purpose came with a lot of trial and error, and it isn’t just one thing; I feel purpose to do many things.  I think once I opened myself up to that process, I was able to understand that my purpose is allowed to change as I change. Right now, my purpose is building a media and production company. Maybe one day it will be something else, but finding this purpose really came from staying open, excited, and curious about what was out there for me to explore.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I run and own a media and production company called Off My Hinge.

We specialize in producing and distributing media that explores how Gen Z communicates on channels such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. Our content explores topics like ghosting and online dating etiquette, providing actionable advice for people seeking to build stronger, more meaningful relationships in digital and offline spaces. My goal in creating this content is to start conversations and raise awareness about how we can truly learn how to self-advocate our needs, boundaries and wants in our relationships.

We also work with businesses who are seeking to better reach and target Gen-Z but helping them build out communication, SEO, marketing and partnership strategies to target authentically with a focus on genuine connection in order to leverage Gen Z buying power.

What feels so meaningful about this work is truly being able to see the first hand effect of being able to articulate what has been unspoken for so long, prompting the community dialogue I had so desperately craved and knowing I produced it myself!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

A quality that I have that I believe  sets me apart is the fact that I am unafraid to be decisive. This relates to  not just  understanding what needs to get done and how I should be delegating tasks among my team, but also about how I communicate the value of these tasks to the company’s operations overall. Even if I don’t make the right decision the first time, making a decision and quickly learning from it builds a lot of trust and rapport.

As for a skill, I think knowing how to change the way that I’m communicating to make sure its resonates for my team, versus a client for example is an incredibly important skill. Some people prefer technical verbal explanations, other people prefer a visual example or a quick text to check in.

An area of knowledge I’m proud of is that I understand how to maintain people’s attention authentically. The content that we distribute at Off My Hinge performs as well as it does because we present it in a way that matches how we know our audience is willing to engage with it.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

Beyond prioritizing education as the foundation of my life, I think the most impactful thing my parents ever did was allow me to not only believe in my capabilities, but to also allow me to be someone who did not have to be defined by one title. Be it at a job, as part of our family, or a student,  they allowed me to be someone who could be 1000 versions of myself imperfectly and on my own terms.
