We recently connected with J.EX and have shared our conversation below.
J.EX, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I found my purpose around October during the Stevie Stone Tour when I performed my song “Papi Flow” and a young kid came on stage and got sturdy (A dance usually danced to NY Drill music, which the song is). I seen my music can get to the ears of those young so my words and life I went thru can possibly help someone. Anyone not just kids.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
For those that been in the Denver Hip-Hop scene ya have probably heard my name circulate. I am a hip-hop artist, entertainer, performer, MC host and many other things in entertainment but most important. I’m a human being just like you I’m from the Bronx New York in the Poconos Pennsylvania. I lived on both sides of the tracks living in the projects and property and living in the suburbs in peace and serenity, not all with peace and serenity, though my mom left my dad because he was a product of the crack era and married my stepdad who was abusive and I was put in a foster care at the age of 12. By 18. I left Forster care it was on my own. I’ve been in the streets, been homeless in and out of jail involved gangs but I also graduated college out in Concord career college manage to turn my life around while living out in Colorado. I moved out in Colorado in 2020 during the pandemic and I haven’t looked back. I have found a hip-hop scene out here and plan on becoming one of the faces of hip-hop out here. I’ve been taking this professionally for a year, but I’ve been raped since I was 12. I had battle raps from New York battle rap leagues to out here in Colorado with body bag battles rap. Last year I came in contact with Derrick Deleon who is the owner of Be Great and we teamed up and was able to get myself out there not just in Colorado, but other states as well. Through my music, which is based off East Coast type style beats and even being versatile getting on any type beat that sounds good to my ear and I’m able to make a song I have been able to express myself and do what I love to do, which is rap. People definitely remember me for my performances that I have done since taking this professionally last year. I give a big shout out to the open mics that have allow me to rap and do my thing out here. Recently I did three tour stops for Stevie Stone no blueprint tour. I also locked in a one album distribution deal with ROC Nation, the Money Gang entertainment. This album that I’m creating is an intro to me and into me and make a break in this industry.. with it being distributed by rock nation, it would be worldwide and on many different platforms. You can follow me at @J.EXofficial on Instagram in my music at J.EX. Moore shows will be announced. I’m working on getting some merchandise in the store put up with just merchandise from posters to T-shirts and many other things. And I’m always looking to Collab with anybody that wants to make any type of music.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
One is taking criticism I think taking criticism from anybody, especially when you know it’s coming from the heart and you put your ego aside able to learn and get more knowledge and be better. The second scale qualities is definitely penmanship like you know working on your your craft. The third one would definitely be knowing my history and what I do which is hip-hop, knowing the history of the culture before I get on the mic and spit out something or give a song out to the public. The advice I would give is definitely be yourself keep going and believing it chase your dreams, no matter what and keep getting better at what you do it don’t matter where you come from you could be a foster kid you could be homeless you could be a convicted felon just coming out like whatever your dreams are if you doing the right thing then you’re able to get to where you need to be chasing what you wanna do That’s my advice

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Three books that definitely helped me develop who I am. One is the autobiography of Malcolm X. And shape my mind into what is wrong and right in this country right now and which side I stand on with what is right and wrong, knowing that it’s in my heart to be a revolutionary into love everybody and give their love to everybody, but not stand for the bullshit. Number two is the Bible and the Quran, two separate books, but two pieces of religious books that have helped me learn morals that have kept me in good spirits. There’s more into the Bible than what is already out as well. And the third one is the 48 laws of power by Robert Green definitely a book that has helped me stay two steps ahead of certain things and something to always keep looking into and studying to be a better businessman or leader or person of power.
