We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jeannie Ly a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeannie, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Confidence was not something that came easily to me. I was bullied as a child for being the shy and quiet girl. It wasn’t until I relocated to New York City following a breakup. One of my best friends was going through my belongings and stumbled across a DSLR camera that I had never touched or used. She began photographing me at random after I asked her to stop. She instructed me to examine the photographs. After that, I began capturing styling photographs for my blog and made an influencing page. Underneath it all, I also journaled and practiced positive affirmation to remind myself that I am enough.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m an actress, fashion influencer, stylist, as well as a digital content creator. What interests me the most, despite wearing various creative hats, is the enthusiasm behind creating and bringing the innovative idea to reality. It gives me so much joy, and it feels so good to know that anything is possible.
As a single mother, it can be difficult to balance life while also having society evaluate you, but I don’t let the judgments get in the way of my success. I focus my mind on the positives and what is true.
I’m currently working on a new product launch as I expand and can’t wait to share it with you all!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
That is a great question! I would suggest perseverance, consistency, and maintaining an open mind. For those who are just starting out, I recommend staying in your path and being true to yourself. Nobody can take that away from you, and no one can use it against you.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
Developing the Leader Within You by John C. Maxwell is probably the only book you actually need out of all the books I’ve read. This book assisted me in developing my leadership skills, remaining loyal to myself, and utilizing all of my skills and wisdom both publicly and personally. Who I am in public is the same person I am in private.
