We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Paradise Paris a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Paradise , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My upbringing! There really was no one coming to save you & all we had was family. You have to have faith. If you don’t believe in God & trust the process you’ll never be able to see progress in life. The thing about it is everything bad is just temporary. As long as you keep living it has to end.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I started off as “Paradise Paris” as a play on words from family and slowly transcending into “Paris The Icon.” I was just always bold and outspoken with a forthcoming & vivacious personality. I genuinely like discussing various topics from social relations commentary to relationship dynamics to celebrity news. I’m a yapper, I can talk for days if you let me so it’s always my intention to cause conversation. I’m always excited to see my brand grow and it amazes me who’s really watching. In one week, I had 5 coworkers identify me and that’s pretty insane considering I only work in office 3 days a week. It does put me on a high to see how many people are reachable and who genuinely supports who I am while expressing myself. I enjoy seeing people in the same arena as me telling me they watch my videos and they know of me. It’s an out of body experience especially collaborating with people I’m fans of.
In the future I would like to transition to a podcast but I have to curate my vision correctly. If I introduce things to my audience I want it to be special where you can feel like you’re being seen. Nothing I do is just to a standard format so I hope my vision comes to life and elevate my social media career to new heights.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My biggest three quality skills at this current point in my life is having active listening skills, understanding intention is not your impact, and being slow to react. Many things are being told to you by others but if you’re not paying them any attention to comprehend what they’re saying you’ll miss the mark. Your biggest navigator in life will be people. People are the building pieces to keep things going not the money you have nor the accomplishments you make. You have to keep a solid community. I keep this in mind when I collaborate with other creators. I’m very mindful of how I intend to affect others so I’m super confident to be sure if I stand behind something I can support it more times often than not retract it. It’s very vital to know the experience you believe people are having with you is not what’s actually happening from their point of view. When you’re used to being defensive, you respond off of impulse so I’ve learned to slow down and just take it all in because everything has its own purpose. I love connecting with people and letting my name carry me as a personable individual. I may not be the most popular or the most liked but I can be the most intentional and genuine. My best advice is don’t do anything for a temporary high! If it’s not right don’t do it! You have to understand anything you put your time and energy into is your baby. You want to nurture and cultivate it to grow to its healthy ability. The objective is to be timeless.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents showed me a variety of things but I think one of the most impactful things could have been to drown out the noise. If you have to do something, get it done and if it doesn’t involve you then don’t get so attached. Trouble is easy to get into and hard to get out of. I can earnestly say they gave me all the tools I need to survive compacting with my faith. As cliche as it really seems you have to commit, be dutiful to your family, and keep going. Treat others like you want to be treated and remember your name will linger before you arrive as well as after you leave.
