We were lucky to catch up with Ryan Whittaker recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ryan , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My childhood was rough. There was violence in the home early on. Addiction and crime were a way of life for my family when I was young. My mother was a very troubled soul who could never fully kick her addiction to substances or deal with her demons. We were homeless at one point.
I have had my struggles in life I really wanted to do all I can for those that struggle with addiction, metal illness or housing. My mother didn’t make it past her 53rd birthday, I would like to help change that for others if I can.
I got sober when I was 15 years old and I learned from others that were in recovery and few that were not in recovery how to survive and not give up or give in, to relapse or the end of a business or project that is way to young to give up on.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am Ryan Whittaker and I got clean when he was 15 years old in 1997. I started a company called Sober Water in 2024 to “Help people. End plastic.” I donated 40 acres in Southern Colorado for the purpose of building a low-cost or no-cost substance abuse treatment center. This is an amazing company that gives back to society more than it takes, and has plenty of room to grow in the ever increasing water market. Invest in people. Invest in water. Join us and become a shareholder at soberwater.org.
We have amazing Rocky Mountain triple-carbon filtered carbonated water -made right in southwest Colorado- as well as natural spring water from two main mountain sources on the west coast and the east coast.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities that were most impactful for me; reading constantly or daily about business, spending a lot of time talking to people about my business and lastly but most importantly -keeping up with my spirituality and continuing my recovery process although I am a person in longterm recovery from substances.
Do nothing, get nothing.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
I would continue to give every available resource I have in order to make a change that will make someone else’s life a little or a lot less hard when they need help.
