We were lucky to catch up with Emmet Myers recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Emmet, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I’d say that I get resilience from my family. They’re hard working people who have the absolute ability to keep their mind and spirit intact in a way that empowers them to keep thriving.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I love being an actor, I feel like I can’t do anything else besides working and creating with talented people. Acting plays a huge part in my life because when I was a child. I had bad speech impediments and when I came to the United States, I took my first drama class in high school and I immediately fell in love with the creative process. You know whenever I am in character, the adrenaline takes away the fear. The love of the craft totally makes it enjoyable for me to use my natural imagination and instruments. I’m able to explore and experiment with new ideas that can present numerous opportunities.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Having the quality of being confident comes from within, knowing that you are capable of being successful. It’s all about your positive attitude towards your environment. I’ve developed the idea of having a positive mindset and gratitude towards others.
I believe that I find joy in being of service to others. My friends, family, love ones and even strangers who I may or may not see again and knowing I made impact in their lives is the most quintessential and a important thing that gives me joy in life.
Improvement in productivity and efficiency in growing and developing a profound attitude towards a simple thought, which I carry with me. I’d tell myself that practice makes improvement not perfection.
As an actor, the number one thing is, to always listen. I do that by keeping eye contact with whoever I’m have a conversation with as well as asking questions and being in the present moment. I like to share my thoughts and hear other’s feedback. In some cases, I’d ask them “If it were you, what would you do”? Sometimes they may be honest or they may not, but the best thing is, I got to communicate with me.
I love reading books, and it’s funny because I never liked reading when I was younger. Now that I am growing and developing, I admire the ability to actually seek out knowledge hidden behind words. Sometimes the idea of reading may seem boring to others but not to me. One of my favorite book is called, “A Child Called It”. I fell in love with the story and the idea of being treated as an outsider.
One Advice that I would give to others who are early in their journey, is to always read and learn about the process. Enjoy the experience of achieving the smallest amount of success because it may turn out to be a great.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Trust within myself, I know I will do the best thing. It comes from experience of living in an environment where, I thrive to do better. I do follow my gut instincts, but I like to calculate and think about things deeply. I may ask for others opinions like my friends or love ones, but at the end of the day, it is up to me to decide. Whether I do make the decision or not. I’m a huge Marvel fan so I love this one quote of how Thanos said “The hardest choices require the strongest well”. Now take away his will of destroying life but in reality that is in fact true, because you have to make the hardest decisions for yourself to be happy, if not, things won’t work out.
