Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rubi Armijo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rubi, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
Creativity is something I nurture every day through the people and experiences around me. I love to travel and find inspiration in the energy of new places, the stories of people I meet, and the social life that connects us all. There’s so much to see and learn, and that constant sense of discovery keeps me feeling alive.
I’m grateful that I get to bring that same creativity into my work. As a social media creator for a decorative concrete company, I collaborate with contractors who constantly come up with new and inventive ideas. I’ve filmed amazing classes where rooms are filled with people eager to learn watching how colors, chemicals, and techniques can transform concrete into something beautiful still amazes me. I never knew concrete could hold so much artistry.
My creativity also thrives at home. Being a mom has helped me reconnect with my own inner child. My kids are endlessly imaginative, and playing with them reminds me to see the world with wonder. Their ideas and curiosity inspire me every day and make me feel deeply blessed to be their mom.
Lastly, as a licensed hairstylist, I find inspiration in color and transformation. Whether it’s formulating the perfect shade or watching a balayage come to life, I’m reminded of the beauty that can emerge from creativity and patience even in something as simple as a haircut.
For me, creativity stays alive by staying curious, staying connected, and always finding beauty in the unexpected.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Professionally, I want to continue growing in filming and editing those are my creative outlets and the heartbeat of what I do. I’ve found a real passion for the decorative concrete world. It’s a field I didn’t expect to fall in love with, but I’ve learned so much from capturing transformations on camera to even completing my own flaked epoxy floor.
Working in what’s often seen as a male dominated industry has been incredibly rewarding. My leadership team has encouraged me to keep learning and has even invested in additional training for me. My long-term goal is to become knowledgeable enough to teach my own classes and open doors for other women who are curious about stepping into the construction and concrete world.
That’s my 9 to 5 but outside of that, I’m also a proud Navy Reservist. I hope to continue growing in all aspects of my career while seeing more of the world along the way.
Creativity flows into every part of my life. I feel most alive when I’m behind the camera whether I’m filming for work or creating content for my personal social media. I have a deep love for beauty and hair, and I enjoy producing videos for gifted collaborations with brands like L’Oréal and Neutrogena.
I’d describe myself as both tough and creative I don’t mind getting my hands (or nails) dirty, and I love proving that beauty, strength, and artistry can exist in the same space. I never realized how cool the decorative concrete world could be, but it’s become a place where I get to express myself, challenge stereotypes, and create something beautiful every day.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I would say the three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are resilience, patience, and courage.
Resilience has taught me that no matter what challenges come my way, I can find a way through them. It’s what keeps me moving forward, even when things don’t go as planned.
Patience has been just as important. I’ve learned that growth takes time, and even when you can’t see the full picture, you have to trust the process. If you truly love what you do, everything will eventually fall into place.
And finally, courage because it takes courage to step into the unknown, to do things that scare you, and to take chances on yourself. Every time I’ve pushed past fear, something amazing has come from it.
My advice for anyone early in their journey is to stay consistent, stay curious, and don’t give up when things get hard. The combination of resilience, patience, and courage will carry you farther than you can imagine.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, I run. I know most people don’t love running, but for me, it’s always been my outlet. I usually go for at least two miles it’s the one habit I’ve had since I was a teenager that truly helps me clear my head.
Running gives me the space to process everything I’m feeling. Sometimes I cry, sometimes I just let my thoughts run their course, but either way, it’s my way of slowing down in a world that moves so fast. It’s the time where I can feel every emotion I’ve been holding in and let it all go by the time I’m done.
My advice to others would be to find that one thing that helps you release and reconnect with yourself whatever it is that helps you breathe again when life gets heavy.
