We recently connected with Sherjan Ahmad and have shared our conversation below.
Sherjan , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I found my purpose the moment I realized that music could be more than entertainment — it could be a bridge between worlds. Playing music allows me to bring people together across cultures and generations; it’s where my roots from Lahore meet my life in New York. Over time, I came to see music as a sacred gift — something that transcends borders, languages, and differences. Music breaks down walls and opens hearts.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m Sherjan Ahmad, a Pakistani-American musician, songwriter, and performer.. Born in Lahore, Pakistan and raised in Rockland County, New York, I draw from my roots in both the East and the West to create music that bridges cultures.
I tour internationally with Junoon, South Asia’s biggest rock band, and have also built a solo career shaped by collaboration and creative exploration. My journey has included performing on the HBO documentary Open Your Eyes, appearing on Coke Studio Season 10, and working with music legends like Jason Mraz and Peter Gabriel. Most recently, my collaboration with Larry Dvoskin and Familiar Faces on “This New Age” is in consideration for the 2026 Grammy Awards.
Beyond the stage, I serve as part of SSGWI (Salman and Samina Global Wellness Initiative), a nonprofit dedicated to promoting wellness through music, storytelling, and social impact projects. Our work includes cross-cultural education, film, rural housing, food security, and clean water initiatives, all rooted in the belief that art and compassion can create lasting change.
For me, music is a sacred language that breaks down walls and opens hearts.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I’d say the three qualities that have shaped my journey most are resilience, authenticity, and connection.
Resilience has been essential. The music world tests you constantly. I’ve learned that setbacks aren’t roadblocks; they’re teachers. Every “no” or closed door pushed me to grow, refine my craft, and stay grounded in why I started making music in the first place.
Authenticity has been my compass. Growing up between Lahore and New York, I had to find my own sound, one that honors both my roots and my experiences. Once I stopped trying to fit into labels and started following my heart, everything began to align. As a Sufi poet once said, “When you see with the heart, all the masks fall down.” That’s when the real magic happens in art and in life.
And finally, connection, because everything meaningful in music comes from the heart. Whether I’m performing, writing, or teaching, I try to stay present with that energy.
For anyone starting out, my advice is simple: trust your heart, stay true to your story, and keep showing up. The journey may test you, but purpose has a way of finding those who listen to their inner voice.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
I would spend it doing what I love and making a positive difference in the world. I would use my music to travel all over the world and connect with people from different backgrounds and cultures.
I’d pour even more energy into the work we do with SSGWI, using music, storytelling, and compassion to uplift communities and bring hope where it’s needed most.
Along the way, I’d collaborate with artists who have inspired me throughout my journey from the emotional storytelling of Coldplay to the wide-ranging energy of the Jonas Brothers, and the boundary-pushing creativity of Drake.
Most of all, I’d spend that decade with the people I love – family, friends, fellow dreamers and staying present in every moment. Life is short, but its meaning expands when we live with purpose. As I often remind myself, when you see with the heart, all the masks fall down, and what’s left is truth, music, and love.
