We recently connected with Scott Stokes and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Scott, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I developed the resilience I have today, starting at a young age. Due to my academic standing, I was always told I wouldn’t be able to amount to much or excel in the masonry field. Being told that at a young age was the motivation that got me to where I am today. Owning my own masonry company and having a great community standing with my company of peers.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
In regard to my story, I started off in the masonry field at the age of 15 as a laborer. I worked myself up the ladder by the time I was 20, I had worked myself into a new company Brick and Block as their new foreman. I worked for them for several years honing my skills. After that, I branched off and made my own company Masonry and More LLC. In the next part of my chapter, I am looking to expand and eventually retire.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1) Self Motivated 2) Problem Solving
3) Teaching
My advice would be there are always going to be setbacks. You need to be able to adapt and overcome.
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
The current challenge I am facing is taking my small company and moving it to the next level.
