Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marcy Haben Kraft. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Marcy Haben, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
Since starting our business, Your Legacy Files, creativity is fueled by curiosity, connection, and collaboration. As entrepreneurs, we’re constantly building something new — and that requires staying open, inspired, and willing to experiment. We believe ideas grow stronger when shared, and we’ve seen again and again that life is more fun with a friend (and a business partner!).
We keep our creativity alive by:
• Working together — because partnership sparks ideas we’d never think of alone.
• Listening to real stories from real families — every person we meet reminds us why this work matters and inspires new ways to serve.
• Staying curious and learning — reading, asking questions, trying new tools, and exploring what’s possible.
• Taking breaks and breathing space into the process — clarity often arrives during a walk, a laugh, or a coffee chat.
• Returning to our mission daily — helping families feel prepared, supported, and loved. Purpose fuels fresh ideas.
For us, creativity isn’t a lightning bolt — it’s a joyful practice rooted in partnership, community, and a shared vision of helping people prepare for what matters most. When we build together, we imagine more, do more, and create better. And honestly? It’s a lot more fun that way

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
At Your Legacy Files, we help people organize their essential information so they — and the people they love — have clarity instead of confusion.
Our journey began in the quiet days of 2020, when our founder’s then-86-year-old mom asked a simple question that changed everything:
“If something happens to me, will my family know where to find everything important?”
She had a will, power of attorney, and medical directives — but she knew real life requires so much more: passwords, account info, care instructions, insurance details, financial contacts, and so much else. What started as her personal project quickly grew into a business that now serves families across the country.
Our flagship product, The Organizational Guide, is a beautifully designed binder or digital file that organizes all the essential information life tends to scatter. It brings clarity and peace of mind to families, especially in moments when support and direction matter most.
What excites us most is the meaning behind this work. We hear every week from families who say, “This changed everything for us.” Parents feel relieved. Adult children feel empowered. Couples feel aligned. It’s not just about paperwork — it’s about love, confidence, and caring for the people who matter.
We also believe life is more fun with a friend — and we live that every day. What began as one mom at a dining room table has become a mother-daughter-and-friend team bringing this mission to so many. Our conversations, our collaboration, and our shared belief in helping people plan with heart keep us inspired and energized.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three qualities have truly shaped our journey: purpose, persistence, and partnership.
1. Purpose — knowing your “why.”
From the beginning, we weren’t just starting a business; we were solving a deeply personal need rooted in love and preparation. That clarity has carried us through every challenge and every new milestone.
Advice: Spend time understanding the real reason behind what you’re building. When you feel connected to your mission, you’ll find motivation you can return to again and again.
2. Persistence — being willing to keep going, even when it’s hard.
Entrepreneurship isn’t neat and tidy. There are days when things click beautifully and days when nothing goes as planned. What matters is continuing, learning, and adjusting as you go.
Advice: Treat setbacks as data, not defeat. Progress compounds — sometimes slowly — but consistency builds incredible momentum.
3. Partnership — believing life (and business) is more fun and more powerful with a friend.
Our company was born at a dining room table and has grown because we lean on one another, challenge one another, and dream together. Collaboration expands possibility — and it makes the journey joyful.
Advice: Surround yourself with people who believe in your vision, bring different strengths, and aren’t afraid to support you or stretch you. Community fuels creativity and resilience.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
Our ideal client isn’t defined by age or stage of life — they’re defined by mindset.
The people who connect most with Your Legacy Files share a common trait:
they care deeply about the people they love and want to make life easier for them.
They’re thoughtful, proactive, and value clarity. They understand that organization isn’t just about papers — it’s about peace, dignity, and leaving a legacy of support, not stress. Many are adult children supporting aging parents, people managing households or caregiving roles, and individuals or couples who want to feel more in control and prepared.
Our ideal client is someone who says, “I don’t want my family to struggle or guess if something happens. I want to give them clarity, comfort, and direction.”
They see preparation as an act of love.
They believe in taking action before a crisis forces it.
And often, they’re the helpers, the planners, the ones others look to for calm and leadership — even if they don’t always feel that way themselves.
Whether they’re 35 and organizing for the first time or helping aging parents, 55 and thinking about retirement, or 85 and wanting to make sure their wishes are honored — they’re united by a desire to give the gift of peace and preparedness to their loved ones.
That’s who we serve — people building a legacy of care, clarity, and compassion.
