Hi Gabriella, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
As an interior designer, finding my purpose was a transformative and introspective journey. It wasn’t a singular moment, but rather a gradual process of self-discovery, passion, and aligning my values with my career aspirations. There was an intense process of soul-searching, embracing challenges, and aligning my passions with the desire to create positive change through my work. It’s a journey that continues to evolve, but at its core, it’s about pursuing a career that brings joy, fulfillment, and a sense of purpose to my life and the lives of those I touch with my designs.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
As an interior designer and creator, I specialize in crafting lively, multifaceted spaces that showcase timeless artistry. My designs are characterized by meticulous attention to detail and expressive creativity. I use my spontaneous approach to design to inspire others to embrace their own creativity, resulting in practical and functional spaces that are unified by the chemistry of art and design.

My services include remodeling, new construction renovation, and styling, all of which I approach with a profound passion for bringing out the true potential of each space. By collaborating closely with clients, I strive to understand their unique vision and preferences, infusing their personalities into the design process. This personalized touch ensures that every project becomes a reflection of their individuality, making any of their spaces truly one-of-a-kind.

But beyond the art of design, I am also eager to explore a collaborative technique that fosters teamwork between artists and designers. By bringing together creative minds from various disciplines, we can blend art, functionality, and innovation in ways that surpass conventional boundaries. This fusion of talents opens up exciting possibilities for creating extraordinary and thought-provoking interiors.

With a deep love for art and design, my brand aims to inspire a harmonious coexistence between these two worlds. I firmly believe that the synergy of artistry and functional design can elevate our daily lives, instilling a sense of joy and appreciation for the spaces we inhabit. It’s this passion for evoking emotions and telling stories through design that drives me to continually seek fresh ideas and innovative approaches.

As I look ahead, I am thrilled to have multiple new personal projects in the pipeline that have been percolating in my mind over the past year. These projects embody my core values as a designer and carry the essence of my artistic philosophy. While I can’t reveal all the details just yet, I can promise your readers that these upcoming endeavors will be a testament to the boundless creativity that can be achieved when art and design intertwine.

In conclusion, my journey as an interior designer is an ever-evolving adventure, fueled by the desire to leave a lasting impression through captivating and functional spaces. Through my work, I aspire to inspire others to embrace their creativity and reimagine the possibilities of design, creating spaces that tell stories, evoke emotions, and stand the test of time.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, I can confidently identify three qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge that have been immensely impactful in shaping my path as a designer and creator.

1.) Creativity and Imagination:
Creativity lies at the heart of every successful interior designer. It’s the ability to think outside the box, visualize unique concepts, and turn imaginative ideas into tangible designs. Cultivate your creativity by constantly seeking inspiration from various sources such as art, nature, culture, architecture, and even everyday life. Attend design events, explore different design styles, and experiment with various materials and textures. Keep a sketchbook to jot down your thoughts and ideas whenever inspiration strikes. Nurture your imagination, and don’t be afraid of weird stuff. Embrace the freedom of creative expression, as it’s what sets you apart and makes your work truly distinctive.

2.) Attention to Detail:
In the world of interior design, the smallest details can make a significant impact. Having a keen eye for detail is crucial in creating cohesive and polished spaces. Train yourself to observe and appreciate the subtle nuances in design elements, such as colors, patterns, textures, and proportions. Develop a habit of critically evaluating your work and refining it until every aspect aligns harmoniously. Attention to detail not only enhances the aesthetics but also improves the functionality of the space, ensuring it caters to the needs and preferences of the occupants.

To improve this skill, practice patience and precision in your work. Take the time to carefully review your designs, seeking feedback from mentors or peers to gain valuable insights. Embrace a growth mindset, and be open to learning from your mistakes. By continuously honing your attention to detail, you’ll develop a reputation for producing exceptional work that surpasses expectations.

3.) Communication and Collaboration:
Interior design is a collaborative process that involves working closely with clients, architects, contractors, and other professionals. Effective communication is key to understanding clients’ needs, building strong working relationships, and ensuring the successful execution of your designs. Develop strong interpersonal skills, actively listen to your clients’ desires, and ask thoughtful questions to gain a deeper understanding of their vision. Learn to articulate your ideas clearly, both verbally and visually, using tools like mood boards, 3D renderings, and sketches to convey your design concepts.

Collaboration extends beyond clients to include working with artists, craftsmen, and other designers. Embrace the opportunity to collaborate with diverse talents, as it can broaden your perspectives and lead to innovative design solutions. Be open to feedback and be receptive to incorporating others’ ideas into your designs. By fostering a collaborative approach, you’ll not only creative a positive feeling when working with you but also produce more enriching and well-rounded designs.

It’s important to remember that creativity, attention to detail, and effective communication are the pillars I believe will support your growth and success. Nourish your creativity, train your eye for detail, and hone your communication and collaboration skills. Stay curious, embrace challenges, and never stop learning. Your dedication to these qualities and skills will undoubtedly pave the way for a fulfilling and prosperous career in the world of design.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
As a designer, one of the most exhilarating yet challenging aspects of my work is the desire to blend a multitude of colors and patterns harmoniously in my designs. I’m captivated by the vast palette of possibilities and the potential for creating visually stunning and dynamic spaces. However, I understand how important it is to ensure that these vibrant elements come together in a cohesive and functional manner, so my designs don’t appear thrown together.

To achieve this delicate balance, I approach each project with a thoughtful and strategic mindset:

Vision and Storytelling: Before diving into the world of colors and patterns, I first establish a clear vision for the space. Understanding the client’s preferences, lifestyle, and the intended ambiance helps me create a storytelling framework for the design. This narrative becomes the guiding thread that connects every element in the space, ensuring that each color and pattern choice serves a purpose in telling the story.

Anchoring with Complementary Colors: Instead of relying solely on neutrals, I explore the use of complementary colors to anchor the design. By strategically selecting colors that complement each other, I create a strong foundation that allows for a harmonious blending of various hues and patterns. This approach adds depth and sophistication to the space while ensuring that all colors work together seamlessly.

Playing with Scale and Proportion: Mixing colors and patterns of varying scales and proportions adds depth and visual interest to the design. I carefully balance large-scale patterns with smaller ones, ensuring they complement rather than compete with each other. This creates a dynamic, layered look that is visually appealing and well-structured.

Color Story and Coordination: I curate a color story that guides my selection of hues, ensuring they work cohesively together. I explore color theory and the psychology of colors to evoke the desired emotions and atmosphere. By coordinating shades and tones across the space, I create a sense of unity, even amid a diverse range of colors.

Test and Refine: Throughout the design process, I constantly test and refine my choices. Mood boards, 3D renderings, and physical material samples become invaluable tools for visualizing how the colors and patterns interact. This iterative approach allows me to make adjustments until the design feels balanced and harmonious.

Functionality and Practicality: While aesthetics are essential, I always prioritize functionality and practicality. Ensuring that the chosen colors and patterns do not disrupt the flow of the space or hinder its purpose is crucial. Each element must contribute to a comfortable and livable environment.

The challenge of blending diverse colors and patterns is an artistic puzzle that I eagerly embrace. By employing a thoughtful and methodical approach, I can create designs that celebrate the richness of color and pattern while remaining coherent, functional, and emotionally compelling.
