We were lucky to catch up with Jennifer Jackson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jennifer, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
My confidence comes from within, and my self-esteem has developed over time. I’ve learned not to stress over things I can’t control because no matter what you do—good or bad—someone will always have an opinion. What matters most is staying true to yourself, knowing your worth, and continuing to grow. That mindset has really helped me stay grounded and confident in who I am.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a writer, producer, director, and author with a passion for storytelling. Over the years, I have written and produced three plays, showcasing my dedication to the craft. Additionally, I have directed films that have captivated audiences and received acclaim. My work has been recognized at 36 film festivals, highlighting my commitment to excellence in the industry.Beyond the lens and the stage, I’m a devoted mother who draws inspiration from the complexities of life and relationships, weaving authentic narratives that resonate deeply with readers and viewers alike.Join me on this creative journey as I continue to explore new projects and share my vision with the world.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
You: The three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are knowledge, setting boundaries, and self-awareness.
First, knowledge — constantly learning and growing has helped me adapt to challenges and make better decisions.
Second, learning that it’s okay to say “no.” I used to be a people pleaser, always giving without expecting anything in return. Over time, I realized that not everyone has the same heart, and some people will take advantage of your kindness. Setting boundaries has given me peace and balance.
And third, self-awareness — especially understanding the importance of mental health. I learned to distance myself from negative people, even if they’re family. Sometimes, the people closest to you can hurt you the most. You can’t choose your family, but you can choose who’s in your inner circle.
For anyone just starting their journey, my advice is simple: never stop learning, protect your peace, and surround yourself with people who lift you up.

Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?
I believe it’s important to be diverse and open to learning different areas within your career or industry. For me, I turned what I once thought were weaknesses into blessings.
My journey started in the entertainment industry as a model. I’m only 5’3”, so I quickly realized that height would limit how far I could go in that field. Instead of giving up, I shifted into fashion design, where I found success — but it still didn’t feel like my true calling. That’s when I discovered writing, something I never expected to be passionate about. Ten years later, I’ve written and directed three stage plays, several films, and participated in over 40 film festivals. This year, I achieved one of my biggest goals — publishing my first romance novel and becoming an international author.
Now, I’m studying videography — an area that used to be a weakness for me — but I’m turning it into an advantage. My philosophy is simple: never stop learning and never let your weaknesses define you. Be open, be diverse, and keep pushing yourself to grow. Even if you fail, at least you can say you tried your best — and that’s what truly counts.
