Meet KATBING

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to KATBING. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi KATBING, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

I don’t think I always have a lot of confidence, but what helps is being in the world and around other people, being sober, not isolating, and doing the things I say I’m gonna do.
As a kid, my confidence came from being good at sports and making people laugh, so I leaned into those for a long time. And as an adult my confidence mainly came from doing art and drinking a lot. So a lot of external things gave me happiness, purpose and confidence. And now, I find I have the most confidence when I’m just taking the next right action and being present and engaging with the world and being of service as much as I can.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I do ART, design, and murals! I’m usually having the most fun when I’m painting large-scale murals! At this moment, I’m planning my third solo art exhibit in Los Angeles called KATBING’S CIRCUS on November 22nd! I’ll be painting the storefront of my studio in Echo Park and showing about 25 new paintings as well as having circus performers, installations and interactive ART! Also very sexy lighting by Matt Shores of Streetlight Events AND BEER and NA BEER provided by Fremont Brewing! You should go! Weeeeeeee!!!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

– WASH YOUR BRUSHES.
– CHARGE BY SQUARE FOOTAGE, NOT TIME.
– DON’T WEAR HEADPHONES WHILE PAINTING IN PUBLIC SPACES. — Because what if people wanna talk to you? If it’s a dude tryna mansplain something, I’m SORRY- it happens. But what if it’s a little kid who has questions about the process. I want to be approachable. I might make their whole darn day. Maybe even inspire them to do ART.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

Current challenge I’m facing is getting KATBING’S CIRCUS ready 2 RAWK by November 22nd while also juggling other jobs and responsibilities. I’m just doing one thing at a time and making my to-do lists and trying my best and everything will work out the way it’s supposed to.
