Meet Mic Harrison

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mic Harrison a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Mic, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

I use to be extremely shy and quiet, especially when I was a kid. My dad was overbearing and I grew up as a Jehovah’s Witness in the 70 and 80’s south which does not instill a lot of confidence. Even though I’m not involved in that religion today I have to admit standing on stage reading a scripture or knocking on a strangers door will slowly teach you not to be afraid to speak in front of anybody. I also started writing songs around that time. Only wanted to write, didn’t want to be on stage but turns out I was good at it and hopefully still am. My stage fright did’t immediately go away. I remember the first festival I ever played , I was so nervous I just looked at the stage floor in front of me and tried not to mess up. My band mates told me afterwards a guy at the front of the stage on my side stood there the whole time flipping me off. I don’t know what would have happen if I had saw him. It took a while but every show I’ve played and every song I write helps me along the way. From Farm Aid to Bonnaroo from local TV to Conan O’Brian my confidence is still building.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My name is Mic Harrison. I use to play in a band called The V-Roys in the late 90’s. We were on a record label ran by Steve Earle and Jack Emerson called E Square. We put out two studio records and a live one in the course of our contract. We got to do some touring with Steve and a lot on our own until New Years Eve 1999. We called it quits after that show. I joined the power pop legends Superdrag after that for one record. Then around 2005 I joined forces with The High Score we’ve been putting out records ever since. Our 7th studio release is out now “Peach Blossom Youth ” available on all streaming platforms and go to www.micharrison.com for tour dates and merch.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1. Kindness

2. Listen – To people, to ideas, to yourself

3. Never give up keep working toward your goal

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I very rarely co-write and really need to get on some bigger tours. The best way to reach me is through management at www.micharrison.com
