We were lucky to catch up with Dusty Dawn recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dusty, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I was taught to get back up. As a country kid with siblings, we ran hard, fell down a lot, and ate a lot of dirt. Not usually purposefully. As soon as you could do something productive, you were put to work. Shucking corn, moving pipe, or loading hay. We had a lot of family tragedy and trauma early on. I guess you have two options… quit or don’t. I haven’t always made the best decisions, and quite frankly I screw up to this day. I learn from my mistakes and have had a lot of good friends pick me up when I wasn’t doing the best at it myself.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Firehouse Dolls is a Media and Promotion company that started as a Female Firefighter Calendar. What was once models posing as Firefighters, was shaped into a sisterhood of real female Firefighters and Rescue Services. With over 20 years of Female Firefighter calendars giving to numerous charities, we wanted to do more. The original owner John Shinkle 40 year Career Firefighter and the model, Flight Paramedic (that changed it from models to the real deal) Dusty Dawn, have collaborated together to take Firehouse Dolls to yet another level. Male Calendars are putting women in their calendars, while we are making an all Male Lonestar Firefighters Edition. We are adding education with personna bots. Firebots that train and teach not only Fire Scenarios but Medical Scenarios as well. We created Firehouse Fashion on accident, and great networks on purpose. Our ladies support each other in moments where we need to be sat back up, as well as life’s great victories. We are First Responders supporting each other and our communities.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Grit, Endurance, and love of science and medicine. I can’t say that I have ever worked, because I have loved what I do. Yes I may have had to get up on days I didn’t want to, but I never had to endure a mundane boring life. I truly believe if you set your mind to something. Surround yourself with those that are doing what you want to do, or those that know what you want to know. You will find the right people to help you succeed. So many young people today don’t know how to talk. They don’t know how to commit. They have the world at their fingertips but it’s computer based. Go out and get the real life knowledge. Not by buying it, but learning everything about the life you want to master. Be kind, help others, and be good to your elders, they are getting tired of everyone’s crap!

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
Doing what I am doing now. I have always lived a life of service to others. I would cause as much good chaos and havoc in this world as I could. I have always been that person who stands up for what is right. I’d ride this beeech out, because God is going to take you when you don’t have anything left to give. Somedays I think that is tomorrow, other day’s I know he would miss this comedy show if he axed me! Regulators!!!!
