An Inspired Chat with Mrs. Geobirttie Wise-Odugu of The Bay Area

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Mrs. Geobirttie Wise-Odugu. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Geobirttie, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Whenever I dive into a good book, I become completely immersed, time fades away, and I often need to set an alarm just to remind myself to come back to reality.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Geobirttie, though most know me as Gigi, Chy or Chyrell. I am a professional makeup artist and founder of Brushes and Strokes by Chyrell. Through my artistry and beauty classes, I empower clients to express their individuality with confidence.
As the creator of Love Your Body by Gigi, my all-natural body, hair, and skincare brand, I’m dedicated to nurturing self-love and holistic beauty in every form.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
When I was younger, I believed my size and body type placed limits on what I could achieve. I was often told to be grateful just to be accepted or included, and that my body type wasn’t considered beautiful. Over time, I learned to challenge those beliefs to embrace my uniqueness and recognize that true beauty comes from confidence, self-love, and authenticity.

This is why I created Love Your Body by Gigi to promote body positivity, self-care, and the reminder that every body is beautiful and worthy of love.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me that growth doesn’t always come wrapped in comfort. It taught me empathy, humility, and the courage to rebuild myself when life felt broken. Success may polish your image, but suffering refines your soul. A saying I often heard growing up was, “Troubles don’t last always.”

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely! It took me a long time to fully love and appreciate myself. Pretending to be someone I’m not takes too much energy, and I’ve realized it’s not worth it. I’ve never been too concerned with what others think of me. That’s their business, not mine.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Yes, most definitely. I’ve never liked the spotlight; it’s something that has always made me feel uncomfortable. My mother taught my siblings and me to do everything as unto the Lord, reminding us that the true value of our actions lies in intention, effort, and heart not in recognition or praise. She would say”Give all you got”! That lesson has stayed with me, guiding how I approach my work, my passions, and the way I encourage others to love and care for themselves.
