Story & Lesson Highlights with Molly Amber of New York City

We recently had the chance to connect with Molly Amber and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Molly, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Very recently, I packed up my Seattle life, said goodbye to my friends and family, and moved to New York City! Moving to NYC has been a dream of mine for years, but actually taking the leap felt both exciting and terrifying. Leaving behind everything familiar to start fresh in a new city pushed me far outside my comfort zone. My partner and I handled all of the logistics, from apartment hunting to organizing the shipping container, and that made the experience even more empowering. Now that I’m here in NYC, I feel a huge sense of accomplishment every time I walk around and remind myself that I made this happen! It’s been an excellent reminder that I’m capable of creating the life of my dreams, even when it takes courage to start over.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi I’m Molly! I’m a lawyer turned travel and lifestyle writer, and I recently began transitioning into the world of Public Relations. After seven years practicing law, I realized my true passion was storytelling (particularly about travel, food, and wine), so I took a leap of faith and built a career in journalism. Over the past five years, I’ve written for various publications, sharing experiences from around the world and connecting with readers through authentic, inspiring stories. Now, I’m excited to bring that same creativity and communication expertise into PR, helping brands tell their stories in impactful ways. What makes my journey unique is that it’s been all about following my curiosity and having the courage to pivot. At the heart of everything I do is a love for meaningful storytelling and building connections that spark inspiration.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
The moment that really shaped how I see the world was living through the pandemic and then losing my mom not long after. Both experiences changed my perspective on time and what truly matters. My mom was someone who lived safely and put off many of her dreams for “later,” and realizing that later isn’t always guaranteed had a profound impact on me. It made me reevaluate my own path. I didn’t want to spend my life doing something that didn’t make me happy or fulfilled. Those experiences pushed me to take risks, change careers, and start building a life that feels meaningful to me. They taught me that life is fragile, but it’s also full of possibility if you’re brave enough to chase it.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, I’d tell her that she’s going to figure it out, even when it doesn’t feel like she will. I’d remind her that she’s amazing just as she is, and that all the uncertainty and self-doubt she feels now will eventually lead her exactly where she’s meant to be. I’d tell her to trust her instincts more, to stop comparing herself to others, and to be proud of her resilience. Life won’t always go according to plan, but every twist and turn will make her stronger, wiser, and more confident in who she is.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would probably say that what really matters to me is living a life that feels meaningful, adventurous, and full of connection. They know how much I value experiences: traveling, trying new restaurants, discovering great wine, but also how deeply I care about the people I share those moments with. I think they’d say I’m someone who follows her heart and isn’t afraid to take risks to build the life she wants. They’d also tell you that I care a lot about kindness, authenticity, and making others feel seen and included. At the end of the day, what matters most to me is creating memories, telling stories, and building a life that feels true to who I am.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
For a long time, I was doing what I was told to do. I went to law school and became an attorney because it felt like the “right” path: stable, respected, and practical. Even though deep down, it didn’t truly feel like the right fit for me. Eventually, I realized I was living a life that looked good on paper but didn’t make me happy. Stepping away from law and building a career in writing (and now transitioning into PR!) has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. For the first time, I truly feel like I’m doing what I was born to do: telling stories, connecting with people, and using creativity to make an impact. It’s taken courage and a few big leaps, but I finally feel aligned with my purpose.
