We’re looking forward to introducing you to Rodolfo Santamarina. Check out our conversation below.
Rodolfo, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Ok so. I wake up, try not to go to my phone right away, because other wise I’ll be in my bed for at least an hour haha,
Go to the bathroom and right after that I have a glass of water with lemon to hydrate the body after 7-8 hours of no liquids. And start preparing breakfast. I usually make an omelet with 2 toasts. Here is when I try to check my phone for a couple of minutes and right after start preparing my back for the day. Depending if I have auditions, classes or a work out session
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! My name is Rodolfo Santamarina, I’m a musical theater performer, originally from Argentina.
I moved to New York City on August of 2018, pursuing the idea of being on Broadway at some point in my life.
I started dancing when I was 14 years old, dancing Salsa which at some point directed me to begin learning jazz dance and theater dance and since then I’ve been in this world
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
This is a funny anecdote, I had/have the fortune my family was always there for me in this journey, but at the begging I remember a conversation my mom and grandma had. Where my mom was a little concern about, you know, “how my life would be?”, “would he be able to survive just from the arts?”. And my grandma answer was: “oh don’t worry! It’s just something temporary! In a month he will be interested in another thing”
Well…that never happened, hahaha!
Years after I spoke with my grandma and she told me: “I’m glad I was wrong!”
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Be patient, trust the process and yourself, I know it’s cheesy but so true haha, because when you push for things to happen, they won’t happen.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Probably, the honesty. I’m a very transparent person. I don’t mind facing problems or situations with people of closest friends but I always want to know the truth, because we can build from there.
I know the truth can hurts sometimes, but I rather that, than a lie.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I really believe that art touches people, and it can change lives.
Recently I’ve done a production of West Side Story, and from the stage we could here people crying by the end of the show, this musical has a strong message about community and the lack of communication and misunderstanding that left the audience thinking about that in our society.
I hope that message could be pass for the next generation of artist
