Lindsey Parsons on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Lindsey Parsons. Check out our conversation below.

Lindsey, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
After waking at 7 and brushing my teeth, etc., I have a cuddle with my husband. Then we meditate for 20 minutes. Then I do a practice called hormone yoga, which helps boost and balance thyroid and female hormones. Then I make my breakfast, usually the same thing every day: spinach, arugula and broccoli spouts sauteed in olive oil, 1 pasture-raised egg over easy, a teaspoon of homemade sauerkraut, a small serving of fruit (raspberries, orange or figs), and a piece of gluten-free toast or English muffin with butter-flavored olive oil.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I didn’t start out in health. I majored in French language and literature, worked in international education, then spent years in nonprofit advocacy pushing for healthier school food. Eventually, my own health challenges pulled me into the world of gut health, and I retrained as a Gut Health Coach.

Today, I run High Desert Health from Tucson, Arizona (although I work with clients virtually around the world). I also host the podcast “The Perfect Stool: Understanding and Healing the Gut Microbiome”, where I interview functional medicine practitioners about reversing gut and autoimmune conditions. Sometimes I bring on patients too—especially those who’ve gone through fecal microbiota transplants—to share real-world healing stories.

I specialize in complex gut cases, especially when autoimmune issues are involved—Hashimoto’s, rheumatoid arthritis, eczema, psoriasis, Crohn’s, colitis, and more. I have post-infectious (autoimmune) IBS myself, so I understand both the science and the emotional side of living with a chronic gut condition.

Because my clients kept needing high-quality butyrate and serum bovine immunoglobulin supplements—and the options were pricey—I created my own supplement line under the brand name “The Perfect Stool”. My first two products are Tributyrin-Max and Serum Bovine Immunoglobulin (SBI) Powder.

Gut health is personal for me, and that’s why I’m so driven to help others get to the root of their symptoms and feel like themselves again.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My dad taught me the most about work either by nature or nurture because of his perfectionist nature. I couldn’t even sweep the garage without him correcting me and showing me the proper way to do it. So I take a lot of care to make sure that the things I produce are of high quality and thorough. That being said, my training as a health coach taught me to let go of some of that perfectionism – not to let the perfect be the enemy of the good. This is a lesson lots of my clients need to learn to get better. So I never let the perfectionism get in the way of me getting things done in a timely manner.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
The hardest moments in my life taught me true empathy. Having gone through an experience of intense grief, I could feel viscerally what that meant for other people. It’s not something you can learn without going through it.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Anyone who knows me well knows that I’m not capable of being anyone but myself. Sometimes that comes off as blunt or insensitive, but you know you’ll always get truth and authenticity from me. And over the years I’ve learned to temper myself and be a bit more thoughtful before speaking. So yes, the public me is the private me is the only me.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Sorry to say it but I’d stop coaching people. It’s very time consuming and empathy-consuming and frankly, like everyone, as I find myself in my final decade before the typical retirement age of 65, I look forward to a relaxing retirement. I imagine I’ll still sell supplements, but the coaching work is very intense and everyone deserves a little bit of life that’s mostly leisurely.
