Story & Lesson Highlights with Rashelle Campbell

We recently had the chance to connect with Rashelle Campbell and have shared our conversation below.

Rashelle, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day is a day full of routine because that’s how my brain can only function! I wake up, make a coffee, and then head to a spin class. Afterwards I start work whether it be admin, tufting, designing, meetings, etc. It is different everyday and then I spend the night with my partner watching some mind numbing show and curl up in my Lizzie Mcguire blanket 🙂

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a designer and founder of RASHELLE, an independent brand based on Treaty 6 Territory, Amiskwaciy-wâskahikan (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada). My work embraces playfulness and the beauty of imperfection, weaving nostalgic joy into contemporary design. With each piece, I seek to encapsulate the feeling of your early 2000’s childhood bedroom in adult form. Modernism meets imagination. Through RASHELLE, I creates pieces that balance storytelling with experimentation, reflecting both her personal perspective and a commitment to meaningful design.

I first began designing and hand-tufting rugs, but soon expanded the brand to include glassware, accessories, jewelry, and clothing. I always say RASHELLE as an “everything textiles and objects brand,” refusing to place myself into a single box.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I believed I had to be good at one thing and one thing only. That my focus is a straight line to one certain career but as I started to grow and get older, I believe that is completely false. As humans, we are always shape shifting and we can do whatever we want, however we want. As someone who has always been curious to try new things I now will never put myself in one category and will always keep exploring my creative journey, As people we should wear many hats and we are able to be GREAT at many things!

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
It would be, never feel ashamed of who you are because you will learn to love yourself and love who you have become.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I think they would say playfulness, humour, quiet time, and food 🙂

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I am around water or in water. Since I am a cancer, I really am such a CRAB!
