An Inspired Chat with Hima Dalal of Columbia ,SC

Hima Dalal shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hima, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
Our Challenge — and Our Mission
At Hima Dalal Integrative Health, one of our biggest challenges is helping people understand and trust how integrative therapy and energy medicine, when used together, can make a profound difference in healing and rehabilitation.
Many people are familiar with traditional occupational therapy or with energy healing methods like Reiki. What we do is different — and deeper.
We combine evidence-based Occupational Therapy interventions with integrative approaches such as:
Energy Medicine (Reiki, ShivYog Healing)
Myofascial Release (MFR & CMFR)
Meditation and Yoga
Meridian and Acupressure Techniques
This unique blend allows us to address not only the physical aspects of recovery — such as mobility, strength, and function — but also the emotional, energetic, and psychological layers that influence overall health.
Our integrative model supports healing from:
Chronic pain and injury recovery
Post-traumatic stress (PTSD)
Anxiety and emotional trauma
Sports performance enhancement
Neurological and orthopedic rehabilitation
Because we integrate the science of anatomy and physiology with the wisdom of energy balance, our clients experience more complete, lasting, and holistic outcomes.
Importantly, our work has no religious affiliation or connection. The methods we use are rooted in scientific understanding of the human body, evidence-informed occupational therapy, and universally accessible mind-body techniques that support healing for people of all backgrounds and beliefs.
This is what makes Integrative Occupational Therapy distinct from standalone healing practices — it is grounded in clinical expertise, guided by anatomy and neuroscience, and enhanced by the restorative power of integrative healing

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My Earliest Memories of Feeling Powerful
My earliest memories of feeling powerful come from the moments when I realized I could make a real difference in someone’s life.
I became an Occupational Therapist in 1981, graduating from Mumbai University. Soon after, I migrated to the United States to join my family and begin a new chapter of life with my husband. Everything was new — the culture, the people, the systems — but what remained constant was my deep desire to help others heal and find meaning in their lives.
As I began working with people who were profoundly physically disabled, children with special needs, athletes in sports rehabilitation, and patients going through cancer recovery, I found myself growing in both skill and empathy. Every person I met taught me something about resilience and hope.
It was during these years that my connection to Eastern medicine began to blossom. I saw how the gentle wisdom of holistic healing could blend beautifully with traditional Occupational Therapy. The more I combined these approaches, the more I felt my confidence and purpose expand.
There was a quiet power in watching someone move a hand they thought they’d never move again, or smile after weeks of pain. That power didn’t come from me alone — it came from connection, compassion, and the belief that healing is a partnership of body, mind, and spirit.
Those moments — helping someone regain function, independence, and a sense of meaning — are when I truly felt powerful. Not because I was changing their lives, but because, together, we were rediscovering the light within them.

When did you last change your mind about something important?
The last time I really changed my mind was after COVID. For 17 years, I owned and ran an outpatient occupational and physical therapy center in Columbia, SC. It wasn’t just a business — it was something I built from the ground up and poured my heart into. We had earned such trust in the community that people would come to us after trying other places and not getting better. That always made me proud.
But after the pandemic, something shifted for me. I started to realize how much of my time and energy was going into managing staff, dealing with insurance companies, and handling the day-to-day running of a large facility. I loved helping people heal, but I didn’t love all the administrative weight that came with it anymore.
So I made a big decision — I sold the practice. It wasn’t easy after 17 years, but it felt right. Then I started over, this time as an integrative holistic therapy provider working solo. Hima Dalal Integrative Health is my new practice name .Now I have no walls, no boundaries — just me and my clients, focusing on healing in a much deeper, more natural way.
It’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made. I’m still doing what I love, just in a way that feels freer and more aligned with who I am now

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
“Is the Public Version of Me the Real Me?”
Yes — absolutely. The public version of me is not a performance; it is an extension of my purpose.
When I speak, teach, or share my work in integrative health, what you see is the same spirit that shows up in my healing room. My professional identity and my spiritual essence are not separate — they are woven together. My science, my therapy, my energy work, my compassion — they flow from the same source.
As an Integrative Occupational Therapist, I do not wear a different face in public than I do in practice. The same hands that perform myofascial release also hold space for meditation, energy, and prayer. The same heart that guides my clients toward wholeness is the one that speaks to the world.
In truth, the public “me” is the mirror of my soul’s calling — to heal, to teach, and to inspire others to remember their own power to heal. What I share outwardly is not a curated image, but a reflection of the inner work I live every day: harmony of body, mind, and spirit

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
Hima Dalal has spent over 45 years healing lives worldwide as an Integrative Occupational Therapist, blending traditional OT with energy medicine, wellness, and Eastern therapies. As the creator of Crystal Myofascial Release, she has helped countless people overcome pain, limitations, and emotional challenges to live life fully. A trendsetter, educator, and visionary healer, Hima’s work inspires others to embrace holistic wellness and reclaim their body, mind, and spirit.
