Story & Lesson Highlights with Gabbie McGuire of Montréal

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Gabbie McGuire. Check out our conversation below.

Gabbie, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me starts with an iced maple syrup cold brew (I’m canadian so the stuff is practically in my veins)

Typically I am answering e-mails, sending quotes and communicating with my social media manager before heading out to contracts for various clients. I love that I have a diverse clientèle. My job definetly keeps me on my toes.

My afternoons are usually creative, I spend time blogging, doing a second or third round of e-mails and opening packages for my makeup inventory of for my collaborations.

I enjoy going out to the theatre or to a nice diner with friends in the evenings but you will not catch me outside past 9pm…I want my skncare, my journal and my bed!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Gabbie and I am a lead makeup artist and hairstylist in the Montreal area

I built my brand 10 years ago and have been working fashion, bridal and social media ever since

Currently, I’m working on sharing my passion for makeup artistry through digital workshops and conferrences. It’s been a journey and I am so proud!

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with my beloved grandmother shaped every facet of who I am today.

She has always seen, accepted and encouraged me.

Words cannot encompass the gratitude and admiration I have for her.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
No. I doubted my methods, re-worked my plans and took time off but giving up never crossed my mind.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
I beleive you can do anything you set your mind to, however, it has proven difficult to confirm outside of annecdotal evidence.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
Every single day and I am amazed to still feel butterflies ten years in. I hope the feeling never stops!
