Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with maximo caminero

We recently had the chance to connect with maximo caminero and have shared our conversation below.

maximo, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. Have you stood up for someone when it cost you something?
recently discovered that the purpose of life is to give. Everything ends, and we let what we’ve built drift. We insist on holding on to all the material things we’ve achieved, and at some point in our existence, we cease to exist. And then? When we give, we receive what truly matters: good energy, which is also health!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a visual artist with over 40 years of experience, and I also write political, philosophical, and anecdotal articles for various media outlets. I currently hold weekly activities where I allow other artists to exhibit in my space.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was many things: I was the sky, I was the wind, I was the stone and the river, and possibly many more things. I believe in destiny, and those who assigned it to me surely know the reasons for it

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Human wounds lead to spiritual wounds. That is, thanks to our indifferent attitude toward others, few care whether you’re well or ill. Some manage to look within and approach the closest thing we’ve always had but never see: our connection to the afterlife. It’s there that we gain strength to learn to flow through life’s setbacks.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Originality always rewards. Energies are always perceived because we are both receivers and transmitters of them. You can’t fool anyone because they perceive it. It’s best to be who you are, and even better if you’re a caring person and show genuine interest in others. I can’t be someone I’m not, and I believe that what I am has been beneficial to me. I’m referring to human interaction.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I don’t think I’d stop doing what I do; on the contrary, I’d do what I never dared to do. I’ve always said that you have to die with an exhausted body. It’s not worth dying healthy…
