Matthew Amor of Atlanta. on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Matthew Amor shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Matthew, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I feel in this new chapter of my life, I’m being called to work on this children’s book series called “The Learning Patrol.” The characters are based on my own children, and it has been a very rewarding experience. I was always nervous about starting something for myself, but I always lacked the motivation to make the first leap without fear of failure. I never created a book series before, and working on this series has helped my confidence in my artistic and writing ability. My wife has been the largest encouragement for me to be in this series, and without her, this series would never have materialized. Our mission is to bring education and fun to early readers with science facts and knowledge about anatomy for the first series.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Matthew Amor, and I am a seasoned illustrator with over 8 years of experience in the animation industry. I’ve worked as a background art director for a studio in Atlanta and had a great experience doing that over the years. I’ve spent two years off from the industry and have had a lot of time to reflect on what projects to begin working on. I began working on this children’s book series with my wife at the beginning of 2024 and have created three books so far. They are science learning books that help to educate younger readers on different aspects of human anatomy. We are looking forward to expanding the brand and getting these books into the hands of as many people as possible.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
I would say my wife Agasha has taught me most about hard work in my relationship with her. She has given me 3 beautiful boys and has endured the hardships that come with raising children. She also continues to work and support our family while I embark on creative enterprises like the book series. Without her work ethic and commitment we would not be where we are today. I am extremely proud of who she is and look forward to growing our brand together.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has taught me that your most vulnerable state in life can be your most productive and eye-opening. When we lack hardships, we tend to revert to a state of comfort where we are unable to grow or expand our creative endeavors. I also look at the examples of the early disciples of Jesus Christ, who were set off on expanding the gospel in a hostile world and were persecuted for their dedication to proclaiming the truth. When I think of their example, on how they did not turn away from suffering, but rather, ran headfirst into it to achieve a greater purpose, my creative goals seem so much smaller in comparison.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I am committed to proclaiming the gospel through my work and who I am, wherever I live. I also strongly believe that God has given me the talent as an artist and would want me to continue to create art that motivates and moves people in a special way. I am working on a graphic novel series that I know will take a long time to create, but I am hopeful that it will inspire those to pursue their own faith and seek out the truth wherever they are.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If immortality were real, what would you build?
Immortality is real. We have two destinations: eternity with God or without God. I hope that everyone reading this will take a moment of their time to reflect upon their own biases toward Jesus Christ. Remove any preconceived notions you may have due to past experience or trauma and reflect upon the character of who Jesus is. He either was a lunatic who proclaimed he was the son of God or was truly what he said he was. He is real and wants a relationship with you, and can use you for his kingdom and his goals. I hope that in my short lifetime I can build a legacy of faith that my children will promote and seek to serve and love those around them, not in perfection, but with humble hearts.
