We’re looking forward to introducing you to Tanya Ellis. Check out our conversation below.

Tanya, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Ive been a Blue Jay’s fan for as long as I can remember. Anthony and I attended a spring training game in Florida at the beginning of the season this year. So it is really exciting to be able to go to the 1st world series Game 1 tonight to Celebrate The Jay’s in this epic moment!! Let’s Gooooooooooo Blue Jay’s 👏👏👏👏👏

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Tanya Ellis and I am an entrepreneur through and through. I have 2 thriving pet grooming Salons. One located in the heart of Bronte Village called The Dog house ( However soon it will be branded Pooches N Bronte and One in Port credit called Pooches N’ Pals. I am really focusing on business coaching and helping new salon owners thrive and start in the Pet grooming world! Its a passion of mine!

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I was really shy and insecure. I have grown to be a very secure and outspoken woman. Although I do hold extreme boundaries. I am not afraid to say what I feel and feel what I say. I feel its one of my strongest qualities.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Ive had quite a few if these moments actually. These past few years with the pandemic and there after have been extremely challenging as a business owner. I feel that I tried to grow too quickly with taking on 4 locations at one point and feeling the burn and realizing that it wasn’t what I really wanted at that time. I have since downsized to two and am much happier and feel in control and really focused on making the pet and pet parent experience better.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
I think the use of money. I feel a lot of people are afraid of debt. But if you use money to expand your personal growth and business development, you become a much more valuable and knowledgeable person to those in your life and can help more people. I remember when I first stayed my business it was so hard to get funding to start my business, now I feel so blessed 🙌to have access to a lot of funding which really helps when you are trying to grow! 💜

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Scrolling on social media. Sometimes I learn a LOT. But sometimes I find myself wasting time just scrolling 🙈🙉🙊
