Story & Lesson Highlights with Beatricia Sagar of Miami Beacj

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Beatricia Sagar. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Beatricia, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
After waking up and showering I prepare a cup of fresh ginger tea.
I take this to my terrace in Miami which has a generosity of views including the bay with its small boats which pass by.
I let my mind drift. If someone I know has a birthday, a baby, a family loss, etc. I write a poem.. Then I think about my “We Are All Connected Art Project.” which is made up of 3 inch puzzle pieces that I send to artists all over the world and I check my phone to see if there have been any recent requests

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I have been working on the”We Are All Connected Art Project” since the beginning of Covid. This began a kind of need to stay separate and apart from each other. I I saw a 20 piece white puzzle which I had never seen before, and my creative mind immediately saw a connection. I began my search for artists who are willing to cooperate. by doing art work on a puzzle piece which fits into the final puzzle to complete it. It has no boundaries and it’s not curated. Everyone is welcome to do a piece.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was a poor kid who grew up in the Bronx, New York. The third Avenue elevated train ran by our apartment and made the area very dark.and it was there , quite by accident, when I was about 13, I discovered that I lived across the street from the Bronx botanical gardens.,When I found the park and the gardens it was the first time I saw grass and trees. I was inspired to go into the gardens and it was there amongst the beautiful color of the plants and flowers, that I started to draw and paint.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Growing up in the Bronx in the darkness of the elevated train felt cold and depressing. I seem to have been born with a creativity that needed and needs to. find a release in someway or other..
I cannot say that I found it. It seems to have found me. Creativity is a gift but not many of us know how to farm it.
It takes digging and probing. It’s easy to get disappointed and discouraged. But then the miracle happens and there it is we need to be put on canvas or written on a paper..

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My friends would say I’m a little kooky
However, they would also say that I don’t give up that one thing inspires another. They would also say that I care deeply about the world and what is happening to it and that they’re not surprised that I am doing a, not for profit project, called. “We are all connected Art Project” where artists from all over the world write thank you letters to me for being included., that I’m fun to be with, and I’m a very good friend..

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop eating ice cream and Ginger cookies. I would stop thinking I could be part of the solutions to the feelings people have that they are isolated and alone. I would stop thinking that artists have a way and a possibility of leading the way to more loving and caring about each other.. if I really think about it though there is nothing I would stop doing.
