We’re looking forward to introducing you to Amy Pierquet. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Amy, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I’m being called to start recording short videos to share on LinkedIn — something that’s definitely outside my comfort zone! For a long time, I’ve preferred to stay behind the scenes, but I know it’s time to show up more personally. My goal is to share quick tips and updates to help business owners strengthen their online presence and make their websites work harder for them.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Amy Pierquet, owner of Waterfront Graphic Design, where I help businesses stand out online with websites that not only look great but also perform well. With over 25 years of experience in design and marketing, I’ve learned that every business has a story worth telling — and my job is to bring that story to life through thoughtful design and clear messaging.
What makes my work special is the personal connection I build with each client. I take the time to understand their goals, challenges, and audience, so their website feels authentic to who they are.
Right now, I’m focused on creating educational content — sharing quick website tips and updates to help business owners improve their digital presence and feel more confident about their online strategy. I’m also helping my daughter begin her career in graphic design, which has been an exciting way to share my passion and see creativity through a fresh perspective.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful was actually rediscovering the version of myself I used to be when I was young — the one who was authentically me. Over time, I tried to fit into what I thought a “grown-up” should be and live up to others’ expectations, especially when it came to being accepted by my husband’s family.
But true power came when I stopped seeking validation outside of myself and started trusting my own instincts again. I returned to who I really am — confident, creative, and guided by my gut. That shift changed everything, both personally and professionally.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me to work through the hard — something success never could.
At ten years into my business, I lost all my clients during the 2008 recession. The magazine design industry I had built my career around was gone by 2010, and I had to figure out how to move forward. Instead of giving up, I used that time to learn website design and digital marketing.
Starting over from scratch in 2011 wasn’t easy. I had to rebuild my business and face some tough limiting beliefs about what I could or couldn’t do. But through that experience, I learned resilience, perseverance, and the power of starting again with new skills and confidence.
If I hadn’t gone through that difficult season, I wouldn’t have become the business owner — or the person — I am today.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely — 100%.
As I mentioned when reflecting on my earliest memory of feeling powerful, I learned that being authentically me is what truly attracts the right clients. When I stopped trying to fit into others’ expectations and started showing up as myself, everything changed.
I share who I am — my passions, interests, and the things I love — in my social posts (yes, even on LinkedIn!). That includes my love for martial arts, boating, Metallica and other metal music, and my orange Mustang GT. And what I’ve found is that people genuinely connect with that authenticity. It builds trust, relatability, and lasting relationships based on mutual passion and respect. I’ve even had people tell me that they connected with me because I do martial arts (something dear to them).
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I deeply understand how limiting beliefs can hold you back in business — and in life. Once I became aware of my own limiting beliefs and worked through them, everything shifted. I could see how much they had been restricting my growth and confidence.
I can only imagine how the old me showed up in meetings with potential clients energetically. If I didn’t have trust in my abilities, how were they going to trust me to do the work for them? I know they felt my hesitation.
Now, I notice those same patterns in my clients. Beyond helping them with their marketing and website strategy, I often help them recognize the beliefs that might be keeping them stuck — like thinking they’re not “tech-savvy enough” or that they can’t compete with larger businesses.
Helping others move past those mental barriers is just as rewarding as helping them elevate their brand.
