We’re looking forward to introducing you to Anne Breedlove. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Anne, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: When was the last time you felt true joy?
I don’t know about it being the last, most recent, time but the joy I felt when my husband Jim and I decided to do another long-distance bike tour – it was the first in 9 years, and we were 78 and 71 – it was just bliss. Seven weeks cycling Brittany, we only average 20 miles a day but it’s my kind of travel – slow, back roads, local – getting a workout but pacing each day so we could stop and relish a long, slow, 2-hour lunch. Bliss!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I wear several hats. I’ve been a fine-art printmaker for decades. The magic of screen printing when the ink is wet and bright on the page makes my heart go pitter pat. I am also an experienced long-haul, loaded-bicycle world traveler. My husband and I have biked tens of thousands of miles in dozens of countries. And I’ve written about that – some short essay pieces, and two books. Part-Time Nomads came out in 2023, Happy Campers came out 2025. And I’m working on my third book – about our six months bicycling across Australia.
Besides marketing my art and books I keep a garden, sew, camp in the mountains, hot yoga.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
When my grandparents retired from New York to Florida my grandfather would come up on the train and take 2 kids back down for the summer. Oh, the train was magical, I caught the travel bug.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
When my mother didn’t listen, wasn’t there to protect me. Too slowly, with time and therapy.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
writing about what I learned traveling the world by bike.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope to get my travel journals, letters, ephemera into an archive so that future generations can discover them, study them, learn from them, as I did studying history. Primary sources rock!
