We recently had the chance to connect with Rodahina Pasteurin and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rodahina, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
My mornings are all about grounding myself in gratitude and faith. As soon as I wake up, I thank God for another day of life. Before the world starts moving too fast, I take time to pray, read my Bible, and reflect on a devotional. That quiet time centers me and sets the tone for everything else. This personal practice leaves me feeling spiritually full and focused and prepares me to face the day with peace and purpose.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Rodahina Pasteurin, and I am a neuroscientist, storyteller, and proud Haitian American. I am currently pursuing my PhD in Medical Neuroscience, where my research explores how the brain and eye communicate to regulate vision, with a focus on understanding how molecular signaling pathways influence eye pressure and contribute to glaucoma, a leading cause of blindness.
Beyond the laboratory, I am passionate about using storytelling, film, and conversation to document wisdom, culture, and faith, especially through intimate, documentary-style podcasts. My work is ultimately about connection – between science and humanity, faith and purpose, and people and their stories.
What makes my journey unique is how I blend science, faith, and creativity, because I see all of them as ways of exploring truth, healing, and connection. Music is another language I speak; I play guitar, drums, and bass. For me, each pursuit feeds the others: science gives me depth, art gives me voice, and music gives me rhythm.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed that I had to please people to be worthy and valuable. I thought I had to earn appreciation by constantly being of service to others, even when it came at my own expense. Now, as a recovering people-pleaser, I’ve learned that my worth isn’t something I have to prove, it’s something I already have. I am enough simply because God created me. I’ve realized that my value comes from being who God made me to be, not from what I can offer or achieve and my talents are an extension of that truth, not the measure of it.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Please be nice to yourself. You are not like everyone else and that is a beautiful thing. Embrace your uniqueness. Don’t rush into anything; everything will unfold according to God’s plan. His timing is perfect, so trust the process. It’s okay not to have everything figured out — no one does. Cherish the time you spend with your loved ones, and always stay thankful.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I deeply admire my mother for her character. She is patient, loving, and supportive and I am so thankful to have her as my mom. She carries herself with integrity and an incredible kindness that inspires everyone around her. I believe her true power is rooted in her character. Mom, if you’re reading this, I want you to know that you are an amazing woman, and I’m so proud of you.
I also admire my dad tremendously. He is a generous man with a big heart and has made many sacrifices for our family. My parents are alike in many ways because they both have a heart for helping others. They taught me early the importance of kindness, faith, and education. Growing up as a little Black girl in a Haitian household wasn’t always easy, but it helped me understand how much my parents sacrificed to give me the opportunities I have today. I am grateful because their love and perseverance are the foundation of who I am.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I am with my family. Quality time improves quality of life. It is important to spend time with the people who bring out the best in you and encourage you to dream big. I love making memories and simply being present with my loved ones. I also find peace in nature. There’s something healing about breathing in fresh air and feeling connected to the world around me.
