We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Natasha Lundy . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Natasha below.
Natasha , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
It was not the easiest path to develop self confidence, self-esteem, and self worth. I believe that our society tells women that if we aren’t perfect & if we don’t quite fit their description of the ideal woman then we should not take space up in the world. So I really struggled throughout my teens & 20’s not feeling enough… not good enough, not smart enough, not worthy of respect. I spent my 4 years at a small liberal arts college learning all about different cultures and groups of people. It was there where I realized that our differences are what makes us unique and beautiful. I also decided that it’s not worth the energy to consistently worry about what other people are thinking about me. So I decided that people’s opinions of me are not my business. This has been incredibly helpful as I have had to navigate throughout my journey of becoming a single parent & starting my own Interior Design Business. I had to block out the voices inside saying “who do you think you are starting your own interior design business & what makes you so special?” Whenever my doubt would sneak up on me I would just be sure to remind myself of the positives. Overtime with each small win my love & respect for myself grew & I am also incredibly lucky to have an amazing support system, including my mom, sisters, and friends that helped me see the good in me, even when I was struggling to find it. Today as a 42 year-old woman, I am very proud of who I am and the challenges I have overcome!
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Natasha Lundy, and a little over a decade ago I started my dream interior design business with no money to my name & a vision for a flexible lifestyle doing what I love; creating spaces for clients that they can enjoy with loved ones for years to come. After working in the Design field and being trained under my savvy and spunky former boss Deb I knew that the design field was where I belonged.
In 2012 I had started a small staging business for some additional income and in 2013 I had my amazing son Will. Becoming Will’s mom was the most rewarding experience of my life & it was also very empowering for me to see my capabilities shine as his mom. That newfound strength gave me a new level of self-worth I had yet to experience.
By the time Will was 16 months old I found myself coming to the realization that I was no longer going to be able to stay married to his dad. While that realization was heartbreaking, it also made me decide that no matter what Will was going to be my priority, and I had to make sure that my career matched up with the way that I had dedicated myself to being the extremely present and loving single parent that Will deserves.
Out of that passion for having the flexibility to be the mom that Will needed me to be as well as continuing with my growth in the design field, I started the company Willow Key Interiors in 2014.
We offer interior design services for mostly residential projects that include remodeling, new construction, E-design services and furnishings as well as window treatments.
I absolutely love my job and by far the majority of days I have at least one moment where I feel extremely lucky to have my dream career. At Willow Key Interiors, we have a small but mighty team that consists of my talented colleague Courtney, who is the other interior designer on our team as well as our amazing office manager, Ginger who also happens to be my sister so it is such a fun and rewarding set up to be able to work with her to make sure that the business side and the experience is positive and smooth for each one of our lovely clients!
In early 2025 I started my next business venture by opening Willow Key Interior’s sister company The Modern Window with my business partner Dan Denhardt. The Modern Window offers a tailored experience in selecting window treatments with options of motorization and automation, all with a focus on your windows being the final design touch of your home.
Starting a new business while still going for speed ahead with growth with Willow Key Interiors has been a fun challenge. There is no way I would be where I am today without the love and support of my family & friends. I am also extremely grateful for my husband Kile; we met when Will was six years old and he has been an amazing support system for both Will and I. Will is now 12 & a rambunctious tween, living his best life… Which revolves around his great group of friends and sporting activities!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
NEVER GIVE UP; DON’T LET A SETBACK MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE A FAILURE; LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES & KEEP PUSHING FORWARD
Always choose kindness as a little kindness can go a long way and create a wave effect to people both near & far!
We are all more alike then we realize; without each other we have nothing. Empathy is not a weakness; it is a beautiful strength!
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
I absolutely love the Gifts of Imperfection by Brené Brown. She talks about living life wholeheartedly, and how people who live wholeheartedly aren’t striving for perfection… They just choose joy, play, rest & Living with their hearts wide open, despite the natural fears of vulnerability that come with life. I strive to live my life wholeheartedly & to take the extra time to smile and connect with strangers; to hold doors open, to look someone in the eyes who is working in the service industry & tell them thank you then ask them how their day is going. This book helped me put a definition to the joy that I find out of the most simple things in life and it has become a great resource for me to re-read when I need to remember what truly matters in life.
