We recently had the chance to connect with Nikkie Brooks and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nikkie , thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Right now, a normal day in my life is anything but ordinary. My passion is people and music, and every moment is shaped by that fire. I wake up balancing the weight of motherhood with the demands of running a funeral home a space where I offer comfort, dignity, and peace to grieving families. Between coordinating services and managing bookings, I find time to nurture my creative soul as an artist and musician. Music is my heartbeat it flows through my day, whether I’m composing, performing, or simply letting it guide my spirit. My kids keep me grounded, reminding me why I hustle so hard. I’m constantly shifting gears: from business calls to bedtime stories, from sorrow to song. It’s intense, it’s emotional, and it’s deeply fulfilling. I live to connect, to create, and to care and every day, I get to do all three.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Lynda Brooks, and I wear many hats, but every one of them is rooted in passion. I’m a businesswoman, a mother of two, an artist, and the proud owner of a funeral home where compassion meets professionalism. My brand is built on honoring life, expressing emotion through art and music, and creating meaningful experiences for the people I serve. What makes my journey unique is the way I blend creativity with care whether I’m comforting grieving families, painting a canvas, or performing music that speaks to the soul.
People and music are my heartbeat. I believe in the power of connection, and I’ve built a life that harmonizes business, artistry, and motherhood. Right now, I’m working on expanding my reach booking more performances, growing my art portfolio, and elevating the services at my funeral home to offer even deeper support to the community. My story is one of resilience, rhythm, and realness and I’m just getting started.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was rhythm before routine. I was curiosity before conformity. I was the girl who sang to the sky, who painted emotions in color, who comforted strangers like they were family. I was a mother before I knew the word for it nurturing, fierce, intuitive. I was a creator, a healer, a dreamer. The world tried to hand me a script, but I kept rewriting it with melody, compassion, and fire. Before the titles, the roles, the expectations I was soul in motion. And I still am.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, more than once. There were days when the weight of it all felt unbearable. Running a funeral home, creating art, raising two kids, and trying to keep music alive in my soul it was like juggling fire while walking a tightrope. There were moments when grief from others seeped into my own spirit, when exhaustion drowned out inspiration, and when I questioned whether I could keep showing up for everyone, including myself.
But then something small would remind me: a melody that moved me, a child’s laugh, a family’s gratitude after a service. Those moments whispered, “You’re still needed. You’re still creating. You’re still healing.” And so, I didn’t give up. I paused, I cried, I recalibrated but I kept going. Because this life I’ve built isn’t just a career it’s a calling.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Making people happy is at the heart of everything I do. Whether I’m comforting a grieving family at my funeral home, creating art that speaks to the soul, or sharing music that lifts spirits I’m driven by the joy I can spark in others. It’s not just about smiles; it’s about connection, healing, and leaving people better than I found them. That’s my purpose, my passion, and my power.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Nothing
