Veronika Zamecnikova shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Veronika, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
My mornings usually start with a cup of coffee and catching up on the news. A few times a week, I like to play tennis – it helps clear my head and get my energy flowing. After that, I dive into my work.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Veronika Zamecnikova, founder of Pill Creative Studio. We’re a small, boutique branding studio based in Los Angeles and New York, focusing on brand strategy, identity, and websites. I truly believe in quality over quantity, so we keep our team intentionally small. That allows us to stay closely involved in every project and ensure we deliver work of the highest quality. I like being hands-on – it means we can create thoughtful, distinctive brands that aren’t just visually appealing, but actually work for the business.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I wasn’t as strong or confident as I am today. That confidence came gradually – with experience, age, and necessity. When I started my own business, I had to push myself out of my comfort zone and, in a way, pretend to be someone I wasn’t yet. Over time, I grew into that version of myself. Gaining that confidence helped me secure better projects and clients, and grow my business.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There was a time when I was going through some personal challenges, and it naturally affected my focus and performance at work. At the same time, the market wasn’t doing well – companies were postponing projects and pulling back on investments. I remember thinking about finding a regular job just to save myself some stress. But I didn’t give in. I pushed myself through it, and over time, things got back on track. My business not only recovered but ended up growing to five times the revenue of previous years. Looking back, I can still feel the stress I went through, but I’m really proud that I never gave up.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
In a way, my public self is like a brand – it’s curated and intentional, but it still has to be authentic. Just like with any product, you can talk up your strengths, but if it’s not real, people will see through it eventually. The public version of me highlights who I truly am and what I stand for, while still leaving room to grow and evolve.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’ve found my own path to what I do today. Luckily, my work is also my hobby, and I’ve been able to take it to another level. I was never told what to do – I didn’t come from a family of doctors or lawyers, where the path is often predetermined. I’ve always had the freedom to choose, and I followed that freedom, even if it took me a little longer to figure out exactly where I wanted to go.
