We’re looking forward to introducing you to Sunita Soni. Check out our conversation below.
Sunita, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is a normal day like for you right now?
My days usually start with a big cup of Indian tea, while I am a highly nomadic US-citizen entrepreneur working across the world for many years, in whatever country I am in and a quick call to my family in India. I then make breakfast and hot and cold natural remedy drinks of various concoctions. I then strategize for collaborating, marketing, selling, and making more creations for my various channels. One, my travel agency NINJA Getaways (https://linktr.ee/NINJAGetaways); also, my Cubist-Surrealist-Travel artwork (https://ko-fi.com/ninjagetaways); also, my NINJA Getaways spin-off “Creativity Academy”; also, via my NINJA Getaways activity workbook “Fun, Simple Coloring & Activity Book To Avoid Negative-Thought Habits & Create A Peaceful, Healthy Mindset (For Kids 8-12): Educational, Multicultural Activities To Mold Children’s Minds For Calmness & Success” (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BRQ4ND7T).
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m the founder of NINJA Getaways, the travel agency launched in 2016 with the motto ‘Happiness & Wellness Via Travel and Art’. What makes NINJA Getaways unique is our focus on travel as a tool for wellness, cultural immersion, and inner transformation which utilize art also, in many subtle/overt ways that help people. Such getaways include the majestic, other-worldly Antarctica.
Also, to help people maximize their peace and mentality/wellness, I created an activity workbook designed (for both kids and adults) to help build calmness, relaxation, critical thinking, and multicultural awareness for travel lovers as well as those who can’t travel or don’t like to.
Also, to help further help people enhance their “Happiness & Wellness Via Travel & Art” (the maxim of NINJA Getaways), I started creating personalized and commissioned artwork of various media (e.g. oil pastels, watercolor paint, watercolor pencils, charcoal, acrylic, and others) to help people relax, recollect themselves, enjoy the present, use mindfulness techniques, and envision and thus bring about their dream via getaways and lives by gazing and meditating on artwork that are also highly engaging conversation pieces with family, friends, and even strangers.
Also, to help push that same motto, I created the “Creativity Academy Brought To You By NJNJA Getaways”. This is the creative space where I and my chosen other experts across Psychology, Art, and other industries who I collaborate with to teach artists, students, entrepreneurs, parents, families, managers, first responders, doctors, authors/writers, and all others come to learn to discover their creative power within to solve highly complex problems using Art, Psychology, fun, and highly engaging drills (e.g. drawing, painting, sidewalk chalking, using Tarot as a purely non-clinical psychological tool, and other very unusual methods).
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My greatest teacher about work has been my husband—a unique type of psychological doctor—who has always taught me to do new things, learn and expand on the existing ideas. He was the one who pushed me into being an entrepreneur, and so NINJA Getaways was born, as well as my other wonderful, and highly people-helping endeavors worldwide.
I was very good at drawing from my childhood although I never did anything with this creative side of mine until he pushed me again to bring this out and has made me a better artist embracing to learn new ideas and share it with others across the world I also get gigs for commissionable art that I do for the families and individuals.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
There is no such thing as “suffering” in my life. You must always remember that your language greatly affects your thoughts, character, and life. However, I would say that there have been certain times in my life that made me learn to be patient, empathetic and to see different perspectives—things that success alone never could have. Success is rewarding but continuous can make you believe you’re untouchable. Suffering makes you humble and open to reality. It strips away illusions and forces you to grow in ways comfort never will. Most importantly, it showed me that true resilience isn’t built in easy times, but in the moments when giving up feels easier than going on.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
Knowingness. Like the popular ancient rule “Know thyself” that is known worldwide and used so many times in movies, TV, theatre, books, articles, and conversations, knowing your abilities, likes, dislikes, what motivates and demotivates you, what work makes you happy or sad, what connects with you, who connects or disconnects with you, etc. helps you spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally. I help people learn their knowingness and keep to it via the most engaging, fun, memorable travel getaways, and via maximizing their mindset via my activity workbook, my art, and my Creativity Academy so they help ensure they and their loved ones are as happy as anyone can ever be, as often as possible their entire lives.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
I do not have any regrets in life because as a child I have learnt to appreciate what I have in life and to be content. I have been blessed and fortunate to have a good family: my parents, siblings and my wonderful soulmate my husband. There is nothing more I can ask for and I am super grateful for that.
