An Inspired Chat with Fran Krause of Burbank

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Fran Krause. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Fran, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is a normal day like for you right now?
It’s been busy lately with a lot of my schedule already filled at the start of the day, so I’ve been trying to find any stray bits of time for creative projects anywhere I can. Often it’s late at night or early in the morning when the house is quiet!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am the creator of the “Deep Dark Fears” comic series, which illustrates the rational and irrational fears of my audience. I’ve been making the weekly comic for thirteen years, along with two books collecting my favorite comics. One of them was a New York Times bestseller. I also teach animation at the California Institute of the Arts.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I am secretly a robot, and everyone around me is too nice to tell me the truth.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Most of the things you really worry about will never happen. Except for that one about alligators.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, except that the private version isn’t awake all the time.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
Most of the really peaceful moments of my life seem to be at a diner, while enjoying breakfast with friends and family.
