Tomisin Summers’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

Tomisin Summers shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Tomisin , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
It looks like grounding myself, light chores, movement, journaling, emails and planners. Timers are key here lol.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Tomisin Summers: the artist and creative director behind Tomiluw. Other than making art, I teach art and animation. And what makes my brand unique ? It’s authentically me, lore and all. My brand and artistry as embodied through Tomiluw is my voice, my craft, my way of expressing myself and connecting with others. My primary mediums are fashion, art, and poetry and currently, I am working on a collection, on storytelling.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with my husband, and thus, my relationship with myself. He’s like a mirror.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
Very recently… but it’s also been such a journey to get here, to this point of no longer hiding the pain or shrinking the power.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Hm…I’d like to think something along the lines of good vibes, genuine connections, and joy.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m doing what I was born to do for sure. Now, I am.
