An Inspired Chat with Ted Morissette of Los Angeles

Ted Morissette shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Ted, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Every day’s a little different, but I usually start around 8–9 a.m. with outreach, calling retailers, distributors, and marketplace partners to get Klar in front of more people. I stack meetings between 9 am and 4 pm. Some days, I’m at the warehouse helping with fulfillment while taking calls. Afternoons are for designing, prepping social posts, and building lists for the next round of outreach.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Ted, Founder of Klar Labs. My background is rooted in creativity. I studied film at Chapman University and began my career in film and television before shifting into product content and brand development. Along the way, I faced my own challenges with gut health and caffeine dependence, which led me to explore nootropics and the science of sustainable energy. That research evolved into Klar: a clean source of energy, focus, and hydration, free from sugar, sucralose, and the inevitable crash.

I also lead Signed Media, where I partner with brands to produce commercial content, social UGC strategies, and creative design. Klar represents the intersection of both worlds: strong science and intentional storytelling.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents, in different ways.

My dad taught me that Morissettes don’t quit. He’s an entrepreneur, and watching how he interacts with people, employees, and clients showed me that care and respect are non-negotiable.

My mom taught me the importance of organization and creative problem-solving. She’s the reason I can think outside the box on days when I don’t know what my next move should be.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
We had tough stretches. Last December, sales were slow and the site was quiet. We had also been burned by an agency and needed to recoup. I never considered quitting. I believed in the product, so the question became, “How can I get creative and keep this alive?” That mindset kept us moving.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
“Supplements are the fix.” They can help, but sleep, nutrition, and movement beat any capsule or powder.

“Zero sugar = healthy.” Often, it’s simply replaced with artificial sweeteners that can be worse in the long term. Clean formulas matter more than slogans.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
Yes. I’m obsessed with the challenge of building Klar. We operate in a fast-growing, competitive category, which means we must educate, sample, collect honest feedback, and create as many consumer touchpoints as possible on a tighter budget than our larger competitors.

The most exciting days are when I’m creating: shooting, editing, designing, or cracking a new angle. I like being stumped. I’ve become better at utilizing small pockets of time by staying open to the idea that anything is possible if you remain curious and continue to experiment.
