We’re looking forward to introducing you to Tracey Wishik. Check out our conversation below.
Tracey, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
I think people assume I just take pretty pictures but what I really do is help families slow down and see each other. This isn’t about snapping a few photos for social media and moving on. It’s about preserving a moment in time when everything feels like it’s moving too fast. I create artwork that lives in your home and reminds you daily of what matters most – your people, your story, your love.
The session itself is just the beginning. What I offer is a space to be present, to be seen, and to walk away with something tangible that keeps those feelings alive long after the moment has passed.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Tracey, a New Jersey-based portrait artist and founder of Tracey Wishik Photography! I specialize in capturing the beautifully unscripted moments of growing families, especially during that magical first year – maternity, newborn, and first birthday milestones.
My work is all about presence. I guide my clients through a full-service experience that’s personal, relaxed, and completely custom to them, from wardrobe to wall art. But more than anything, I want families to walk away with artwork that feels like them, something they’ll see every day in their home and think, “That’s us. That’s our story.”
Right now, I’m incredibly excited about the launch of my new in-home studio, a space I designed to be warm, welcoming, and truly stress-free for parents. I’ve built this brand with intention, one that values connection over perfection and art over trends. I’m honored every time a family trusts me to tell a chapter of their story.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I used to believe I had to shrink myself to fit in, to tone it down, be less sensitive, less creative, less “too much.” But now I see those parts of me were never the problem. They’re actually what make me a great artist and a safe space for my clients.
Being deeply feeling, observant, and a little bit of a weirdo? That’s the magic. It’s how I tune into what matters most to the families I photograph. I no longer think I have to fit into someone else’s mold. I built my business by embracing what makes me me, and that’s exactly the energy I bring into every session.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of being misunderstood has always lingered, but the deeper fear, the one that kept me up at night, was the fear of failing at doing what I love. Building a business around something so personal, something that means so much to me, felt incredibly vulnerable. What if it didn’t work? What if people didn’t see the value in it?
But over time, I realized that success isn’t about fitting into some perfect mold. It’s about really listening and hearing what my clients are craving beneath the surface, even when they can’t articulate it themselves. It’s about seeing beyond the Pinterest boards and Instagram inspo, and instead creating something that feels true to them and worthy of being passed down.
That shift changed everything. Now, the fear doesn’t lead, the connection does.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
That love leaves a trace, in the softness of a glance, the way hands find each other without thinking, the quiet hum of belonging. I believe the ordinary moments are where the sacred lives. That when we’re truly present, time slows, and something eternal tugs at the edges. Maybe that’s what we’re really trying to hold onto, not just a memory, but a feeling that says, you were here, you were loved, and it mattered.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
When I’m in the middle of a session and everything else fades. It’s just me, my camera, and a family fully present in front of me. There’s this quiet rhythm that takes over when I’m watching a moment unfold, knowing I’m about to preserve something real and fleeting. I also find peace in the little rituals – sipping my matcha, editing with music playing, or seeing a finished piece of artwork in my hands, knowing it’s going to live in someone’s home and heart for years to come.
