We’re looking forward to introducing you to David Sodemann. Check out our conversation below.
Hi David, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
The biggest misconception is that we simply sell or rent camper vans. What we actually do is design experiences that give people freedom and comfort wherever they go. Our vans combine craftsmanship, design, and functionality in a way that surprises most people. What they expect to be minimalist or rugged ends up feeling warm, refined, and personal.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m David Sodemann, co-founder of Boho Camper Vans in Tempe, Arizona. We design and build handcrafted camper vans that help people explore in comfort and style. Boho started as a small idea between friends who wanted to live a little freer and travel a little lighter, and it’s grown into a brand that helps others do the same. Every van we build is unique, thoughtfully designed, and ready to take someone on their next adventure. What makes Boho special is the soul behind it. We care about good design, good people, and good trips, and we try to put that into every van that rolls out of our shop.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
The person who taught me the most about work is my dad. He started his own telecom business at a young age and ran it successfully for three decades. Watching him navigate challenges, lead with integrity, and build something lasting had a huge influence on me. He’s always been my mentor and a reminder that hard work paired with consistency pays off.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Be patient. The hard parts are teaching you more than you realize.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That more is better. In reality, good design and craftsmanship matter far more than size or luxury.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I was a good dad who showed up, loved deeply, and gave my boys the best example I could.
