Shaketha C Marion of Middle Georgia on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Shaketha C Marion and have shared our conversation below.

Shaketha C, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
On August 31, 2025 I received my Associates of Art Degree from the University of Phoenix! I am very proud of myself for that!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi everyone! I am Shaketha C Marion, mom of 3, GLAMMa of 1. I am a published children’s book author and currently working as an advocate at a Domestic Violence Shelter for women and children. I am also a social media influencer and have over 50k followers on my “This Mom Means Business Inc” fanpage where I promote positivity, share funny and inspiring content about myself, my children and just like in general.

I am a cancer survivor who is enjoying her second chance at life. I truly believe in being a light in such a dark world and I strive to help others as much as possible. For the past 5 years I have been sharing my birthday with the homeless by preparing meals and giving away food. I truly feel that my birthday means I’ve been blessed with another year to help someone else. Beating cancer and all that I’ve endured made me realize what’s really important in life and for me that’s helping others.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I have spent many years being silent and just taking whatever people gave me. I have dealt with biting my tongue and doing what I’m told and what is expected of me to avoid confrontation, in order to keep a job and/or to maintain a relationship. I learned the power of being silent which can be a good thing, but it crippled me in a way. We must know when to be silent and when to use our voice and how to use it. I always remained silent…. Until now.

That part of me must now be released because my voice matters, it is powerful and it is important. I have something to say and the world must hear it.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There has been PLENTY of times when I almost gave up. I got married in 2016 to someone who I thought I knew but it turned out I knew nothing about them at all and the things I did know were all lies. I spent 5 years with this person and he almost destroyed my life and my children’s lives. After seeing how my children were deeply affected I almost gave up on life itself because I felt like I had failed as a mother and was almost convinced that they would be better off without me. What kind of mother was I if I couldn’t protect my children? I was depressed but eventually realized I am in fact an amazing mother and I did the best I could and I’m still doing the best I can for them. We are in a better place as a family unit now.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is very real! I am very transparent on social media and I share so much of my personal life and it is all real. I think what I don’t show is how much of a cry baby I am behind closed doors. I cry a lot sometimes because I’ve been through a lot and it can be overwhelming. Sometimes I cry because I’m so grateful to be where I am today.

I am the same sweet, caring, loving, and helpful person in person as I am in the public eye. I take pride in that.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Most definitely! For me it’s not about the praise of others even though it is nice to be recognized. I have been doing things behind the scenes for a very long time on the jobs I’ve had in life. During the last job I had I went out of my way to help the company and the students we served and never really got any acknowledgement for it but it didn’t stop me from doing those things because seeing the smiles on my student’s faces made it all worth it.
