Sylvia Larrass’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Sylvia Larrass. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Sylvia , it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Being outside in Nature and enjoying the spaciousness and timelessness it generously provides. No deadlines, no constraints – only expansiveness.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a Leadership and Communication Coach. In my work, I help individuals or teams become clear on their role and objectives so they can more confidently influence others, as well as communicate their ideas with greater impact.

Let’s take the expert I recently prepared for a TEDx talk: Thanks to a clear and cohesive road map we worked on together, along with tips and tools for greater focus she was able to remain confident during her presentation and deliver a good show for the audience.

Or let’s take the team of leaders whose goal was to drive change in their organization: Thanks to a customized intervention around team communication they were able to better articulate their strengths and advocate for projects they received recognition for.

I guess what’s unique about my approach is that it often incorporates voice coaching. Oftentimes, professionals aspiring to become recognized leaders are either too soft-spoken, or they speak too fast. That perceived lack of confidence can lead to stalling in their career advancement.

The voice coaching enhances not only their physical voice, but also their inner voice. Being a compelling leader means firmly standing in both.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
That I had to please and be nice to others in order to be loved and respected. This belief followed me for decades until I decided it no longer was true and no longer served me. That realization was very liberating, and today it serves me when coaching my clients towards greater self-sufficiency and autonomy.

When did you last change your mind about something important?
I always believed that it was imperative to stay on top of the news in order to be current, cultivated and intelligent. But lately, with all the volatility and chaos I’ve decided much of the news causes more inner turmoil than anything else.

I therefore curate my news sources very carefully, and sometimes I avoid it altogether.

The strengths I bring to my coaching clients are inner calm and focus, and I cannot let any external turbulence or distractions get in the way of how I serve them.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
Tony Robbins.

He’s remained steadfast in his unwavering commitment to helping others fulfil their dreams over the past 5 decades.
He’s generous and bold in his ideas, as well as coaching style, and his strategies have guided millions towards a better life, including myself.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
I think that if I retired tomorrow my clients would miss my listening ear and my ability to give them my full attention.

As time progresses I increasingly realize how rare listening has become, and yet there’s never been a time in which it was this urgent.

Fully giving one’s undivided attention to another person is a gift – whether in or outside a coaching session – , as it allows for space to be creative, resourceful and energizing. Without judgement.
