Story & Lesson Highlights with Chip Miller

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Chip Miller. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Chip, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
I’d hire me because of the range of talents and entrepreneurial experiences I have been blessed with. I am a multi-tasker on steroids. I love what I do. I always reach for the top. I remain true to a vision. I am also a generous creative collaborator and always strive for uniqueness, originality, and above all, integrity. Bottom line is that I am reliable, a problem solver, and always deliver.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I was a professional NY illustrator and graduate of School of Visual Arts in NYC, creating art and designs for national magazines, album covers, book jackets, and corporate logos. Loved movies since I was 8 years old living in NJ. Began writing original comic book stories and artwork, and sold several to D.C. Comics. I served in the USAF as a Graphic and Visual Specialist, where I learned about film equipment and cameras. On discharge, I moved to London for 5 years and worked on the BBC TV series, “Monty Python’s Flying Circus.” Back in the USA, I worked on Madison Avenue as an Art Director and Creative Director for two major ad agencies. As an artist and copywriter, I created national ad campaigns and composed dozens of well-known TV and radio jingles. I designed the Marriott Hotel corporate logo still in use today. I began directing TV commercials, starting with local and regional spots, then national ones . During this period, I was part of a folk duo, Reynolds and Miller, and toured with Paul Simon and Jackson Browne. We secured a record deal at Capitol Records with Paul Simon producing. When my songwriting partner joined Scientology, it put a strain on the friendship, the collaboration, and with Simon and the studio musicians. The album was left unfinished, until 2016, when I formed the alt rock band, Old Sand Mill. We rebooted the old music and released the first of three successful albums on Universal Records. Our debut album in 2018, “The World is Getting Colder,” with a huge list of famous guests like Brian Wilson (The Beach Boys), Jerry Douglas (Alison Krauss & Union Station), Paul Simon, Gabe Witcher (The Punch Brothers), Deniece Williams, and Darryl Jones of The Rolling Stones, was a major online hit. In 2025, we released our new album, “The Example.” I moved to Hollywood and sold my first script to director Brian DePalma. I designed and illustrated major movie posters, produced and directed over 150 MTV, BET, CMT, and MTV Europe music videos for major recording artists like, Linkin Park, LL Cool J, The Black Crowes, Trini Lopez, Charlie Wilson, Little River Band, Marc Anthony, Peter Murphy, The Commodores, Squeeze, Alabama, Dianne Warren, Charlie Daniels, Kenny Loggins, Richard Marx, Everclear, Dwight Yoakam, Pam Tillis, Shawn Colvin, Melissa Manchester, Roger McGuinn (The Byrds), Peter Yarrow (Peter, Paul & Mary), Kevin Cronin (REO Speedwagon), Amy Lee (Evanescence), Sheryl Crow, John Prine, and Loretta Lynn. In addition, I produced several independent movies, including one, “Mortuary Academy,” which is a longtime cult film in the UK and throughout Europe. I am primarily a film and TV director, WGA screenwriter, producer, and recording artist. Since the 80’s, I have sold 21 screenplays, many made into feature films, TV movies, and streaming feature content. I’ve also directed 50 plus live music concert specials for HBO, BBC, Showtime, PBS, and CMT, for such artists as Diahann Carroll, Marc Anthony, The Rolling Stones, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Kingston Trio, Kris Kristofferson, The Three Tenors, The National Dance Company of Ireland, and many more. In 2008, I co-founded a successful film and video production company and a post-production facility, Desert C.A.M. Studios, with locations in Burbank and Palm Desert, CA, and in Phoenix, AZ. Upcoming movies include “The Californian” a Liam Neeson western, “The Wanderer,” a Kevin Sorbo film, and biopics on The Mama and The Papas, Edgar Cayce, r&b singer Donny Hathaway, and a sports biopic, “Life On a Fast Lane,” with multiple Oscar winning producer, Michael Shamberg and actor Leonardo DiCaprio. In early 2026 we shoot the biker drama, “Ride To Justice” in the California desert for Lionsgate Films – all based on my original scripts.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
I was 14. when my father passed away at 39. My mother who raised me and my two sisters alone, was widowed at 38, but she held two jobs, and served in the Navy in WWII where she met my dad who was also in the Navy. Her work ethic was pure and passionate.

When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
My art. My music. My dreams. My fantasies. My goals. And from 13 on, the female species.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
My beautiful 3rd wife, Travis Miller, whom I have been with for 30 years. She is my muse, my inspiration, and professionally my longtime video producer and editor. Her honesty, kindness, humbleness, and integrity is unmatchable.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Doing everything I was born to do and fated to do. In fact, it has turned out even better than I expected.
