Story & Lesson Highlights with Nakia Brantley of Vallejo

Nakia Brantley shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Nakia, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity is more important to me. Integrity to me means standing for yourself or others even it’s not popular opinion.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Nakia the owner and lead designer of Petals and Bliss Event Company. My mission is to help others bring their event visions to life. We specialize in luxurious floral designs along with spectacular event design.
When starting my journey in the event industry it was my love of decorating. Now I am driven by the power of florals, the excitement of taking an empty space and turning it into something exceptional and providing the wow factor for my clients and their guests.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
My parents have always been my example of hard work. My parents always taught us the value of doing your best at whatever job you were given.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
This year actually. Business inquiries have slowed across the industry. There was a time I went months with no inquiries and no confirmed booking. I started to doubt my abilities.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, I’m goofy but about business. I know that things don’t always go as planned sometimes and you need to pivot to get things done. TheI believe that everyone should be treated fairly. The public version of me is the real me, I want my clients to know exactly who they are entrusting with their special moments.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I want people to remember my kindness and my love for my family and friends.
