We’re looking forward to introducing you to Dani Thompson. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Dani, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
This isn’t just lately, it’s always but – hiking. I love getting outdoors in nature whether it’s forest, coastal or countryside. Just being out in the fresh air, feeling the sun or the breeze on on skin. Listening to the sounds and just being totally immersed in nature. Especially now that it’s Autumn and everything looks so beautiful.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m an actress known mostly for my work in independent horror. Some would say a ‘Scream Queen’ but I still don’t know if I deserve that title so I like to go with ‘Scream Princess’.
As well as acting, I have also written and produced and recently dabbled in directing.
I also host my own podcast – The Scream Princess Podcast which goes out on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music and my YouTube channel.
Then on the flip side of that, in total contrast to my work in horror – I also work as a multi modality, holistic therapist. I’m a qualified Reiki master, crystal healer, sound therapist and yoga teacher and often hold space online through Stardust Holistics.
Everything in balance right? I do think it’s important to look after your wellbeing especially when you’re part of an industry as fickle and unpredictable as the film industry.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Actually I don’t think I was that different to how I am now although there was a bit in the middle that was a little wild.
I grew up in the countryside, I spent a lot of time outdoors, I always loved anything spooky and I was in to crystals and a little bit woo woo.
Then there were the modelling years – living in London, partying every night. Looking back I wouldn’t nececssarily change that as I had fun at the time but I think I would maybe have tried to invoke a little more balance.
Once I enrolled at drama school, I calmed down a lot but honestly I think it was lockdown that brought me back. Being unable to go out out, led me to get back to nature, hiking and wild swimming and then retraining in holistics and deciding to sell up and move to the coast.
Kind of a full circle because I am now back to spending time outdoors, loving anything spooky and being a little bit woo woo.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Never, giving up is never an option. I’m very determined or possibly stubborn so if I get myself a goal, I will find a way of achieving it.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
My cat Magick. We have two, they’re brother and sister from the same litter but couldn’t be more different. Midnight is lovely, affectionate, happy to see you when you come home, always wants to be stroked, purrs like a motorbike – and then there’s his sister, she thinks we exisit only to serve her – by serve, I mean feed… Every morning without fail at 5am she behaves like an absolute demon. Climbing on to the bedroom door and dive bombing the bed if her incessant meows have failed at gatting you up. If you ever want a cuddle she looks at you like you’ve gone mad.
I often think, I really admire her attitude problem. Also her determination to get what she wants and making it happen by whatever means neccessary…
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Definitely what I was born to do.
I would hate to wake up at 80 and think I’d wasted my whole life doing a job I hated just to pay bills.
That’s why I think it’s important to work out what it is that you love and turn that passion in to your career – and make sure you find time for as many adventures as you an squeeze in along the way.
