Meet Brian Kiley

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brian Kiley. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with brian below.

Brian, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

my mother was an orphan and my dad was a world war II veteran and I think some of their resilence rubbed off on me

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I wrote for Conan for 27 years.
I wrote on the final season of Ellen.
I wrote for last year’s Oscars.

As a comedian, I made numerous appearances on Letterman, the Tonight Show and Conan.

My drybar special has over 4 million views.

I’ve won two Emmys.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

i think that I’ve learned how to write jokes. I work hard and I am resilient.

Find what you are good at, carve a niche for yourself and work harder than the other guy.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

I think the lack of comedy shows on television and the state of the film and TV business is very distressing here in LA.

I have to do my best to ignore all the negatives and just try and focus on what I need to do and not think about the world at large.

I try and just get a little better at what I do every day.
