Meet Melanie Inman

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Melanie Inman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Melanie below.

Hi Melanie, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from a lifetime of change that was out of my control. My parents were both divorced multiple times, which lead to household changes, address changes, school changes, etc. Don’t get me wrong, I was always cared for, but these changes in my life forced me to be able to adapt to the surroundings I was put in.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
The most exciting part of our business is seeing ideas and visions come to life! It is absolutely amazing when a customer comes to me with a basic idea and I get to run with it. We exchange a few emails or phone calls back and forth until we get it just right- then, we print it, embroider it, sublimate it… and there it is! A finished product that just started as an idea. It’s so cool!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
We are such the DIY type of people! If there’s something to learn, Josh & I are both very much willing to do so. As we worked through those early times of growth, we had to stay patient. Trying new things and different techniques was important. I can’t tell you how many times I cried over bad prints, screens that wouldn’t turn out, new inks, new setups… all of it! I wanted to throw in the towel many, many times. The best advice I have for someone just starting out is to give it time! Be patient. Understand that a lot of money goes out the window early on. You’ll ruin shirts, hats, screens- it just happens. Prepare yourself for failure while you learn and have confidence that you’ll figure it out. Trial and error is the only way!

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
We are always looking for new groups, businesses, and schools to collaborate with! We try really hard to find items you’re looking for and have online catalogs if you want to get a little more detailed with items you might want to have us work on. We’re accessible via Facebook chat at our page, BHC Screen Printing, but also via email [email protected]. Those are the easiest ways to reach us and send us your ideas!
