Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marni Luftspring. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Marni, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
Well, I can’t tell you that I was the best student growing up. Is . Many people told me because I didn’t have the best grades I wouldn’t go too far so I think my resilience comes from people telling me I couldn’t do it so I had to prove them wrong. I get a lot of people telling me over the years that I have tenacity. . I suppose that’s very similar to resilience . I think in life you have to just pick yourself up and keep going no matter what.. I always tell myself no matter how hard it gets to just stand. There’s really no such thing as failure. All you have to do is just find another way.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’ve been part of Toronto’s commercial production world for over 30 years , starting out as a receptionist, then working my way through roles in sales, management, and eventually becoming a managing partner before opening my own production company. My goal has always been simple: to work hard and help create great television commercials.
Today, I produce and create commercials that connect with audiences and bring ideas to life. What drives me most is discovering and nurturing new directorial talent, collaborating with creative teams, and finding fresh ways to tell compelling stories through advertising.
During COVID, when the company I was working with shut down, I decided it was time to take a leap and launch my own venture Feels Like Home Films. The name says it all: I wanted to build a company rooted in creativity, collaboration, and heart a place where making great work truly feels like home.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Communication
Recognizing talent in people
Intuition
A great Executive Producer is, above all, a connector , someone who can bring together creative talent, clients, and crew to make a shared vision come to life. Communication is at the heart of it all: knowing how to listen, collaborate, and keep everyone inspired and aligned. Recognizing talent in people is another key, seeing potential, even before others do, and giving individuals the right opportunities to shine. And then there’s intuition, that gut instinct that guides you when making quick decisions, solving problems, or choosing the right team for the right project. In production, strong relationships mean everything, and the best producers know how to nurture those connections with authenticity and trust.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I’ve been very lucky to have some incredible mentors throughout my career, most of them women. Edie Weiss, owner of Radke Films; Christina Ford, owner of Imported Artists; and Tina Petridis, owner of Industry Films, have each influenced me in powerful ways. Most recently, my partners at Feels Like Home Films, Estelle Weir and Chilo Fletcher, have been an amazing source of support and inspiration as I’ve built my own company.
Each of these women has shown me a different style of leadership and taught me something valuable about myself, about resilience, creativity, and how I want to lead within my own company. Their guidance has shaped not only my career, but also the kind of producer and collaborator I strive to be every day
