We were lucky to catch up with Marni Luftspring recently and have shared our conversation below.
Marni, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I think my resilience comes from being told, as a young adult, that I wouldn’t go far without good grades. I wasn’t the strongest student, and hearing that over and over lit a fire in me — I wanted to prove people wrong. I believed that success wasn’t just about being an “A” student; it was about creativity, personality, and passion. Those qualities have always driven me. I’m the kind of person who doesn’t give up easily — when things get tough, I remind myself that all it takes is one small step forward, and the courage to stand up and keep going.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’ve been working in the toronto commercial production side for over 30 years. From being a receptionist . Sales rep, managing partner to opening my own production company . My goal has always is to work hard and be a part of making great tv commercials.
I create and produce commercials.
I love to build and find new directorial talent. Love to create and make great ads. I love sales and working on a team with creative people. During Covid the company I was working with shut down and I decided then to open up my own Feels Like Home Films.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Communication
Recognizing talent in people
Intuition
A great Executive Producer is a connector., someone who can bring together creative talent, clients, and crew to make a shared vision happen. This means leading with empathy, communicating clearly, and knowing how to manage both personalities and pressure. Strong relationships are everything in production , from directors and agencies to editors and suppliers, and the best producers know how to nurture those connections over time

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
I’ve been very lucky to have some great mentors in my career. Most of them have been women. Edie Weiss owner of Radke films, Christina Ford owner of Imported Artist, Tina Petridis owner of Industry Films and most recently my partners supporting me opening up Feels Like Home Films , Estelle Weir and Chilo Fetcher . These woman have all showed me different styles of leadership and taught me so much scout myself and how I want to be in my own company
