Sarah Avery shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Sarah, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately my biggest source of joy outside of work has been my daughter. She’s at such a fun age where everything feels new and exciting, and I love watching her curiosity unfold. Whether we’re outside exploring, dancing in the kitchen, or reading the same book for the tenth time, she has this way of making the simplest moments feel really special. It’s brought a lot of balance and perspective to my days and reminded me how much joy there is in slowing down and being present.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Sarah Avery, a Doctor of Physical Therapy and the owner of In Motion Integrative Physical Therapy in Saratoga Springs, as well as Moon Cycle Seed Company. My work focuses on helping women build strength, confidence, and a deeper understanding of their bodies through every stage of life. I’ve treated hundreds of women with osteoporosis and developed a signature program called OsteoVitality that makes strength training for bone health accessible, safe, and empowering. I also run Moon Cycle Seed Company, which grew out of my own journey to support women through nutrition and lifestyle cycles. I love blending science with a holistic approach and creating spaces where women feel supported, informed, and inspired to take ownership of their health.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I think what breaks the bond between people is usually a lack of understanding or communication. When we stop feeling seen or heard, it’s easy for distance to grow. What restores connection is slowing down enough to really listen, to show up with honesty and care, and to assume good intent. Most relationships can find their way back when both people are willing to meet each other with openness and empathy.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell her to trust herself more. Everything she feels deeply is there for a reason, and she doesn’t have to shrink to make others comfortable. The path will make sense in time, even the parts that feel uncertain right now. Keep showing up with heart and curiosity, it’s all leading somewhere beautiful.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That more is always better. That healing comes from doing harder exercises, longer sessions, or chasing quick results. The truth is, real progress comes from understanding the body, moving with intention, and respecting the process. Another lie is that there’s one right way to heal or get strong. Every person’s body tells a different story, and what works best is always the approach that honors that individuality.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
What would remain is my heart, my curiosity, and my capacity to connect. The part of me that finds meaning in helping others feel at home in their bodies and in themselves. The love I have for my family, the peace I find in nature, and the quiet drive to keep learning and growing. Without the titles or things, I think I’d still be me, someone who cares deeply, moves with purpose, and wants to leave people a little more grounded than when she found them.
