Yui Shibata of Los Angeles on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Yui Shibata. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Yui, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I begin my mornings with a cup of warm lemon water to awaken my body from within. Then I move to my yoga mat for a gentle flow, allowing my mind and energy to find balance. Once I feel centered and refreshed, I enjoy a light, nourishing breakfast—a simple ritual that sets a graceful tone for the day ahead.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Yui, a Japanese actress based in Los Angeles. I’ve been fortunate to appear in many film and television productions, which has allowed me to grow both as an artist and as a storyteller. Recently, I had the incredible honor of serving as a judge at the Japan Film Festival, which was such a meaningful experience for me as an actress. Right now, I’m also starring as one of the main cast members on the hit weekly TV show Creative World—it’s been an exciting and creatively fulfilling journey. I truly love bringing stories to life and connecting with people through my performances, and I’m always inspired to keep challenging myself in this beautiful, ever-evolving world of film.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I truly believed that the worlds in movies like Harry Potter or The Lord of the Rings were real—that those magical places and characters actually existed somewhere. When I eventually realized it was all created with CGI, I remember feeling like I’d lost a bit of that magic. But now, as an actress, I get to be part of creating those worlds myself. In a way, I’ve found the magic again—just from the other side of the camera.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
It happened when I began taking acting classes. My coach encouraged me to dig into my past—to face the painful memories and traumas I had tried to hide for so long—and to use them as fuel for my craft. From that moment, everything changed. I realized that my pain wasn’t something to escape from, but something that could give truth and depth to my performances. It became my power, my voice.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes — at least half of I am. The rest is a little mystery I like to keep for myself.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
Even without the titles or the spotlight, I’d still have my humor and my friends. Honestly, they’re the best parts of me—and the reason I stay sane in this crazy business.
