We recently connected with Luz Marina Lopez and have shared our conversation below.
Luz Marina, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience is deeply rooted in two significant aspects of my life. I draw a tremendous amount of resilience from my mother’s strength and the powerful example she set while working towards her goals. As a single mom, we immigrated from Mexico with dreams of a better life. Throughout our journey, my mother exhibited unwavering determination, facing numerous challenges and overcoming them through sheer hard work and perseverance. Witnessing her unwavering commitment to our family and her unyielding spirit has left an indelible mark on me.
Her relentless pursuit of a better life taught me that with hard work and determination, anything is possible. Her resilience has instilled in me the belief that challenges are not roadblocks but opportunities for growth and learning. As I faced my own difficulties and adversities, I’ve always remembered her example, which inspired me to stay focused on my goals, embrace challenges, and never give up.
My relationship with God has been an incredible source of strength and guidance in my life. Through this relationship, I have experienced freedom from emotional turmoil and found solace in knowing that I have a personal connection with Him. God has become real to me, and through this connection, I’ve learned to trust Him completely with the details of my life.
As a Christian mental health counselor, I believe that my faith and trust in God have made me stronger in both my personal and professional life. Through prayer, meditation, and seeking His wisdom, I have discovered a profound sense of peace that allows me to navigate challenges and difficulties with resilience and grace.
In my practice, I have the privilege of helping clients understand the power of their own faith and its potential to transform their lives. I encourage them to draw strength from their relationship with God, just as I have, and to lean on His guidance during their healing journey.
One of the most beautiful aspects of my faith is the knowledge that even in the depths of pain and struggle, God can use those experiences to bring about something meaningful and beautiful. As Scripture says, ‘He makes beauty out of ashes.’ I strive to help my clients see that their deepest pain can be a stepping stone toward growth, restoration, and resilience.
By integrating my Christian beliefs into my counseling approach, I create a safe and supportive environment for clients to explore the spiritual dimension of their lives. I believe that faith can play a transformative role in the healing process, helping individuals find hope, purpose, and strength amidst life’s challenges.
Overall, the combination of my mother’s example and my trust in Christ has shaped my resilient mindset. As a mental health counselor, I hope to inspire and guide my clients to find their inner strength, just as I have learned to do in my life’s journey. By drawing from both personal experiences and professional knowledge, I believe I can make a positive impact on their lives and empower them to overcome obstacles and embrace their own resilience

As a Christian counselor and licensed practitioner, my role is deeply rewarding as I get to guide individuals on a transformative journey of personal growth and healing. What I find most exciting and special about my work is the opportunity to empower people to not just cope with their challenges, but to truly make positive changes in their lives.
My approach to counseling goes beyond conventional techniques. I integrate the principles of science and neuroplasticity into my practice, allowing clients to understand the fascinating ways our brains can adapt and rewire. This knowledge empowers them to take active steps towards reshaping their thoughts and behaviors in a way that fosters resilience and well-being.
Additionally, being bilingual in English and Spanish has been an invaluable asset in my practice. It allows me to connect with a broader range of individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, ensuring that language is never a barrier to seeking help and support.
Moreover, my trauma training has equipped me with the skills and sensitivity to address the complex impact of trauma on people’s lives. This expertise allows me to create a safe and compassionate space for clients to process their experiences and work towards healing and growth.
Overall, what excites me the most is witnessing the positive transformations that occur in my clients’ lives as they gain insights, learn practical tools, and embrace hope for a brighter future. Being a catalyst for change and witnessing the resilience and strength that people can discover within themselves is a truly special and humbling experience.
My passion for teaching, combined with my Christian values, allows me to provide holistic and compassionate care for those seeking support. It brings me great joy to walk alongside individuals on their unique journeys, helping them uncover their potential, find healing, and ultimately thrive in their lives.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back at my journey, I can identify three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that have had the most significant impact on my personal and professional growth:
1. Patience and Trust in God’s Timing: Learning to be patient with myself and trusting in God’s timing has been crucial. Life is a journey filled with ups and downs, and not everything happens on our preferred timeline. Embracing patience and understanding that God’s plan may not align with our immediate desires allows for personal growth and resilience. My advice to those early in their journey is to be kind to themselves and trust that things will unfold in due time. Stay focused on your goals, but also be open to unexpected opportunities that may lead to greater fulfillment.
2. Discipline and Consistency: I’ve come to realize that change and progress require consistent effort and discipline. Setting clear goals and having the determination to work towards them regularly is essential. Early in one’s journey, it’s vital to develop habits of discipline and maintain a focused mindset. Surround yourself with positive influences and create personal boundaries to avoid distractions. Stay committed to your aspirations, even when it feels challenging or when progress may seem slow. Small, consistent steps can lead to significant achievements over time.
3. Understanding the Importance of a Life of Faith: My journey has taught me the profound significance of having faith in Christ and its impact on all aspects of life. In a world where culture often dismisses faith as irrelevant, recognizing the importance of spiritual well-being is essential. We are designed to worship. Understanding that true fulfillment comes from worshiping God and aligning our lives with His purpose brings lasting peace and contentment. My advice to those beginning their journey is to explore and deepen their faith in Christ, seeking understanding and wisdom through prayer, meditation, and connecting with a supportive community.
In summary, for those early in their journey, my advice is to embrace patience and trust in God’s timing, develop discipline and consistency to drive progress, and prioritize a life of faith in Christ, as it can positively impact every aspect of life. Remember that personal growth is a lifelong process, and it’s essential to be open to learning, staying resilient through challenges, and finding joy in the journey. With dedication, self-awareness, and faith, you can discover your true potential and lead a fulfilling life.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
The person who has been most helpful in helping me overcome challenges and develop the essential skills, qualities, or knowledge needed for success is my husband. His unwavering support, encouragement, and wisdom have been invaluable in managing my business and making important decisions.
My husband’s feedback is honest and insightful, which has guided me in various aspects of my life and career. He has a way of providing a balanced perspective and being a voice of reason when I face difficult situations or uncertainties.
Furthermore, our marriage is a true testament to God’s goodness, as we have grown together as a couple through our shared faith and walk with the Lord. This spiritual journey has strengthened our bond and provided a solid foundation for navigating life’s challenges together.
Witnessing the transformation and growth in our marriage has been a source of inspiration and resilience for me. It reinforces my belief in the power of faith and the positive impact it can have on relationships and personal development.
As a result of this supportive and nurturing relationship, I find myself better equipped to work with couples facing turmoil and challenges. I can draw from our experiences and offer empathy and understanding to those seeking to overcome difficulties in their relationships. Seeing the transformation in my own marriage gives me hope and optimism for the couples I counsel, as I know that with dedication, communication, and a shared faith, relationships can thrive and find healing.
In conclusion, my husband’s support and our shared faith have been instrumental in helping me overcome challenges and develop the skills and qualities needed for success. His presence in my life is a constant reminder of God’s goodness and the transformative power of faith, which I carry with me as I work with others to help them find hope and healing in their relationships.
